“Wealth Management Crisis aat UBS” (see file attached)

1. Based on the “Wealth Management Crisis at UBS,” my opinion is that the government and national culture of Switzerland, the U.S. Treasury, and some corrupt governments around the world, played a major role in aiding the tax fraud scandal committed by more than 52,000 U.S. residents.

The extent to which the corporate culture of UBS also contributed to the scandal is that the bank continued to help these U.S. residents to hide billions of dollars in untaxed assets. Why should the bank deliberately hide accounts for U.S. residents?

2. The global financial crisis between 2007 and 2009 helped in uncovering the secret accounts and tax fraud scandal because its challenges encouraged the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) decided to investigate the tax frauds committed by foreign account holders.

The implication is that without the global financial crisis, the investigations that uncovered the tax fraud would not have been initiated by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) soon.

3. It matters to the entities that could have been impacted by the scandal. For instance, the U.S. Treasury was being deprived of hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes, according to the report.

Without the bailment from the Swiss government, UBS would have collapsed. Many account holders would have lost their savings in the process.

There is no way no losses would not have been incurred if the scandal continued.

4. Importantly, we are not supposed to wait for the next global recession to uncover similar financial scandals and tax frauds around the world.

Thus, tax havens, like the UBS, must come under rigorous investigations from time to time. Such regular investigations would deter would-be tax fraudsters and assets looters from committing to hiding their accounts.

Glavine Company issues 6,000 shares of its $5 par value common stock having a fair value of $25 per share and 9,000 shares of it
almond37 [142]

Answer:

                                                                                        $

Market value of common stocks (6,000 x $25) = 150,000

Market value of preferred stocks (9,000 x $20) = 180,000

Market value of the company 330,000

Proceeds allocated to common stocks

= $150,000/$330,000 x $312,000

= $141,818

The correct answer is B

Explanation:

The market value of the company is the aggregate of market value of common stocks and market value of preferred stocks. The market value of each stock is equal to number of each stock outstanding multiplied by market price per share. Thus, the proceeds allocated to common stock equals the market value of equity divided by market value of the company multiplied by the lump sum.

raketka [301]

Answer:

Dr Right of use asset 59,007.60

    Cr Lease liability 59,007.60

Explanation:

Variable lease payments are generally not included as right of use asset or lease liability. Even though a 60% possibility exists that an additional $5,000 will be paid, they are not based on an index and are not disguised payments (only two exceptions to this rule).

Annual lease payments = $12,000

PV annuity factor, 6%, 6 periods = 4.9173

PV of lease payments = $12,000 x 4.9173 = $59,007.60

MArishka [77]

Answer: True

Explanation: Entrepreneurship is the ability to create and run a business venture with the aim of generating a profit. This comes in the form of starting new businesses. It takes into account planning, organising, managing an assembling the 4 factors of production, and using these factors to create a product or service that customers can buy, in exchange for money. The four factors of production are: land, labour, natural resources and capital. It is important to note that although entrepreneurs aim to make a profit, they can also bear risks that can affect their business ventures and thus the profit that they make.
