At a fixed temperature and pressure, a cylinder contains equal volumes of O2 and an unknown gas. The identity of the unknown gas CO.

The number of moles of a given substance is calculated by dividing the mass by the molar mass.

The number of moles of O₂ = \mathbf{=\dfrac{20.0 \ g}{32 \ g/mol}}

= 0.625 moles.

Based on the given assumption, at fixed temperature and pressure;

  • Let assume that the number of moles of the unknown gas is = 0.625 moles

The molar mass of the unknown gas can be estimated as:

\mathbf{= \dfrac{mass}{number \ of \ moles}}

\mathbf{= \dfrac{17.5 \ g}{0.625 \ moles}}

= 28 g/mol

Therefore, we can conclude that the unknown gas is CO.

How many kilojoules of heat will be released when exactly 1 mole of iron, Fe, is burned to form Fe2O3 at standard state condaiti
Diano4ka-milaya [45]

Answer:

412.1kJ

Explanation:

For the reaction , from the question -

4Fe (s)  +  3O₂ (g)  → 2Fe₂O₃ (s)

Δ Hrxn = Δ H°f (products) - Δ H°f (reactants)

In case the compound is in its standard state , enthalphy of formation is zero

Hence ,

for the above reaction ,

ΔHrxn =( 2 * Δ H° (Fe₂O₃ )) - [ ( 4 *Δ H° Fe ) + (3 * Δ H° O₂ )]

The value for Δ H°(Fe₂O₃ ) = - 824.2kJ/mol

Δ H° Fe = 0

Δ H° O₂ = 0

Putting in the above equation ,

ΔH rxn = ( 2 * Δ H° (Fe₂O₃ ))  - 0

ΔHrxn =  2× - 824.2 kJ / mol = - 1648.4 kJ/mol

- 1648.4 kJ/mol  , this much heat is released by the buring of 4 mol of Fe.

Hence ,

for 1 mol of Fe ,

- 1648.4 kJ/mol  / 4 = 412.1kJ

CO is a primary pollutant.
Anuta_ua [19.1K]

True

Carbon monoxide is a primary pollutant which no odor results from incomplete combustion of fuel. The man sources are gasoline and burning of biomass.

Depending on the source of emission, pollutants can be classified into two groups that is primary and secondary pollutants.

A primary pollutant is emitted in the atmosphere directly from a source. It can be either natural sch as volcanic eruptions, sandstorms or man-made that is due to industrial and vehicle emissions.  Examples of primary pollutants are nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide and particulate matter.

Secondary pollutant is due to interactions between primary and secondary pollutants. These can be chemical or physical interactions. Examples are photo-chemical oxidants and secondary particulate matter.

Therefore, carbon monoxide CO is a primary pollutant.
