The coefficients in front of H⁺ and Fe³⁺ in the balanced reaction is 8 and 5.

What is a redox reaction ?

An oxidation-reduction (redox) reaction is a type of chemical reaction that involves a transfer of electrons between two species.

An oxidation-reduction reaction is any chemical reaction in which the oxidation number of a molecule, atom, or ion changes by gaining or losing an electron.

Redox reactions are common and vital to some of the basic functions of life, including photosynthesis, respiration, combustion, and corrosion or rusting.

Fe²⁺ +MnO₄⁻    ⇄       Fe³⁺ + Mn²⁺

Assigning Oxidation numbers

Fe²⁺    : +2

+Mn   :   + 7     O₄⁻  : -2

Fe³⁺  :    +3

Mn²⁺  :  +2

Oxidation half reaction Fe²⁺   ----->   Fe³⁺ +e-

Reduction half reaction   MnO₄⁻ + 5 e⁻  ----> Mn²⁺

After balancing the charge & oxygen atoms

5Fe²⁺  ----->   5Fe³⁺ +5e-

MnO₄⁻ + 5 e⁻ +8H⁺ ----> Mn²⁺ +4H₂O

After adding half reaction

5Fe +MnO₄⁻+8H⁺ ⇄5Fe³⁺ +Mn²⁺ +4H₂O

This is the final balanced reaction.

The coefficients in front of H⁺ and Fe³⁺ in the balanced reaction is 8 and 5.

In everyday use, "theory" frequently implies an untested hunch, or a supposition without supporting proof. For scientists, a theory has about the contrary significance. A hypothesis is a very much validated clarification of am aspect of the natural world that can join laws, speculations and realities.

What type of reaction is shown below? Check all that apply. Ca + 2H2O → Ca(OH)2 + H2 synthesis decomposition combustion single r
Ksju [112]

The balanced reaction is

Ca + 2H2O → Ca(OH)2 + H2

Here this reaction can be compared with

A + BC  ---> AB + C

So here one reactant (A) is accepting a group which is being given by another compound (BC) however the A is not giving any group / element or ion

So this single displacement

Similarly in the given reaction

the anion OH- is only being replaced

The element Ca accepts OH- and H2O loses the same group to form new element H2

So the correct answer is

Single replacement also known as single displacement

Find the average speed of a person who swims 105 m in 70 s
spin [16.1K]

Answer:

v = 1.5 m/s

Explanation:

Given that,

Distance covered by a person, d = 105 m

Time taken, t = 70 s

We need to find the average speed of the person. We know that the average speed is given by :

v=\dfrac{d}{t}\\\\v=\dfrac{105\ m}{70\ s}\\\\v=1.5\ m/s

So, the average speed of the person is equal to 1.5 m/s.

2.
Why does
a chemical equation
need to
be balanced?
arlik [135]

Answer:

Chemical equations must be balanced to satisfy the law of conservation of matter, that states that matter cannot be produced or destroyed in a closed system. The law of conservation of mass governs the balancing of a chemical equation.
