When zinc oxide reacts with dilute nitric acid, zinc nitrate is produced. The equation for the reaction is: ZnO + 2HNO₃→ Zn(NO₃)

₂ + H₂O. Use 0.200 mol of nitric acid reacts with excess zinc oxide. A mass of 15.3 g of zinc nitrate is produced. Calculate the percentage yield of zinc nitrate. [Mr of zinc nitrate = 189]

ZnO + 2HNO₃→ Zn(NO₃)₂ + H₂O

mol Zn(NO₃)₂ = mol ZnO = 0.2 (from the coefficient)

mass Zn(NO₃)₂ = 0.2 x 189 = 37.8 g (theorethical yield)

% yield = 15.3 : 37.8 x 100% = 40.48%

How many mL of a 15% acid solution and how many mL of a 3% acid solution must be mixed to get 45 mL of a 7% acid solution?
madam [21]

Answer:

15 mL of 15% acid solution and 30 mL of 3% acid solution

Explanation:

The total number of moles of the mixture (n_{3}) is equivalent to the addition of the number of moles of the first solution (n_{1}) and the number of moles of the second solution (n_{2}). Mathematically,

n_{1} +n_{2} = n_{3}

n_{1} = V_{1}*C_{1}

n_{2} = V_{2}*C_{2}

n_{3} = V_{3}*C_{3}

The volume of the mixture = 45 mL

The volume of first solution = x

The volume of second solution = 45 - x

Therefore:

0.15x + 0.03(45-x) = 0.07*45

0.15x + 1.35-0.03x = 3.15

0.12x = 1.8

x = 15

Thus, the volume of the first solution is 15 mL while the volume of the second solution is 30 mL.

Answer:

The average kinetic energy of the gas particles is greater in container B because it has a higher temperature.

Explanation:

<em>The correct option would be that the average kinetic energy of the gas particles is greater in container B because it has a higher temperature.</em>

<u>According to the kinetic theory of matter, the temperate of a substance is a measure of the average kinetic energy of the molecules of substance. In other words, the higher the temperature of a substance, the higher the average kinetic energy of the molecules of the substance.</u>

In the illustration, the gas in container B showed a higher temperature than that of container A as indicated on the thermometer, it thus means that the average kinetic energy of the molecules of gas B is higher than those of gas A.

What is the percentage composition for H2O in this compound Al(OH)3.2H2O?
Gelneren [198K]

Answer:

32.73%

Explanation:

To solve this problem, first find the molar mass of Al(OH)₃.2H₂O

 Atomic mass of Al  = 27g/mol

                            O = 16g/mol

                            H  = 1g/mol

Molar mass = 27 + 3(16 + 1) + 2(2(1) + 16)

                    = 27 + 51 + 36

                   = 114g/mol

Percentage composition  = \frac{36}{114} x 100 = 32.73%
