spin [16.1K]2 years ago

The average rates of change of f(x) and their corresponding intervals are given as:

Interval          Rate of Change

[-5, -1]                 -8

[-4, -1]                 -7

[-3, 1]                  -4

[-2, 1]                  -3.

<h3>What is the explanation for the above?
</h3>

Step 1 - See Table Attached

Step 2 - State the formula for rate of change

The formula for rate of change is given as:
= [change in f(x)] / [change in x]

a) For interval [5, -1] ⇒

Rate of Change - [ f(1) - f(-5) ] / [-1 - (-5)]

= [-1 - 35] / [-1+5]

= -36 / 4

= - 8

b) For interval [-4, -1] ⇒

rate of change = [ f(-1) - f(-4) ] / [ -1 - (-4) ]

= [3 - 24] / [-1 + 4]

= -21/3

= - 7

c) interval [-3,1] ⇒

rate of change = [ f(1) - f(-3) ] / [ 1 - (-3) ]

= [-1 - 15] / [1 + 3]

= -16/4

= - 4

d) interval [-2,1] ⇒

rate of change = [f (1) - f(-2)] / [1 - (-2)]

= [ -1 - 8] / [1 + 2]

= -9/3

= -3

Which term is not a like term?<br><br> 3x<br> 4y<br> 7x<br> x
Katena32 [7]

Answer:

4y is not a like term.

Step-by-step explanation:

Unlike the other variables, 4y has a y instead of an x. The numbers with an x variable can all be combined, but 4y can't be combined with an x variable.

A. One player places 1 red, 5 green and 3 blue tiles in Bag A, and 6 red, 4 green, and 2 blue in Bag B. What is the probability
cupoosta [38]

Answer:

\frac{8}{27} is the probability that a player draws out two tiles of the same color assuming they are drawing one tile from each bag.

Step-by-step explanation:

In each bag there are red, green, and blue tiles, meaning that no matter which color is pulled out first there is always some probability that the second tile will be the same color. So, we can set up three possible outcomes:

Red: The player pulls out a red tile first. This has a \frac{1}{9} probability of happening. Then in order to succeed for the problem, the next tile also needs to be red which has a \frac{6}{12} probability attached to it. \frac{1}{9} × \frac{6}{12}=\frac{1}{18} probability of happening.

Green: There is a \frac{5}{9} probability of the player pulling out a green tile first. In this case we want to calculate the probability of the second tile being green, which would be \frac{4}{12}. \frac{5}{9}×\frac{4}{12}=\frac{5}{27}.

Blue: There is a \frac{3}{9} probability of the first tile being blue in which case we are hoping for the second tile to be blue as well. The probability of the second tile being blue is \frac{2}{12} on its own, and them both being blue is  \frac{3}{9}×\frac{2}{12}=\frac{1}{18}

Adding \frac{1}{18}+\frac{1}{18}+\frac{5}{27} we get the answer \frac{8}{27}.

The sphere at the right fits snugly inside a cube with 8-in. edges. What is the approximate volume of the space between the sph
boyakko [2]

Answer:the answer is

Find the vol of the sphere:

radius of the sphere = 3 in

V = %284%2F3%29%2Api%2A3%5E3

V = 97.858

:

Find the vol between the sphere and cube:

216 - 97.858 = 118.142 cu/in

Where do I place the coordinates for -2x-5 and -x-4
Maslowich

Step-by-step explanation:

you need to calculate coordinates first. just by having the function definitions you don't have any coordinates yet.

I typically pick x = 0 as a first point.

so, that gives

-2×0 - 5 = -5

as y result for the first line.

the point on line 1 is then (0, -5)

and we get -0 - 4 = -4 as y result for the second line.

the point for the second line is (0, -4)

for second points I typically go for x = 1.

for the first line we get

-2×1 - 5 = -2 - 5 = -7

and the second point is (1, -7) for the first line.

for the second line we get

-1 - 4 = -5

and the second point is (1, -5) for the second line.

so, make points on the chart for all 4 points, and connect them (and extend the connecting lines to the left and right to the end of the grid).

and the crossing point ?

that is where both equations deliver the same result.

so,

-2x - 5 = -x - 4

-x = 1

x = -1

and the y is then e.g. -2×-1 - 5 = 2 - 5 = -3

and the crossing point is (-1, -3)

John and his son are building a boxcar for a group competition. According to the rules of the competition, the length of the car
kozerog [31]

Answer:

x ≥ y + 2

0.50 (x) (x+3) + 2.25 (4) (y) ≤ 50

Step-by-step explanation:

x = width of the car

x+3 = length of the car

y = radius of the car

The width must be at least 2 inches greater than the radius, so:

x ≥ y + 2

The total cost must be no more than $50, so:

0.50 (x) (x+3) + 2.25 (4) (y) ≤ 50
