A researcher collects various pieces of information from volunteers for a study into the health effects of drinking and smoking.

The information collected includes each volunteer's name, residence, age, height, weight, medical history and their history of smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol. All participants agreed to provide their information after the researcher explained how it would be used. When publishing their results, the researcher feels that it would be unethical not to include the raw data which they have used to support their findings. So the researcher publishes the findings of the study, including all the supporting data on all the study participants, in a well known journal. The principle of ethical research violated is the one that states that individual information should be kept private and that only summary results should be made public.

  • The participants can withdraw at any moment form your research since they are there voluntarily.
  • Do not use misleading practices that confuse the participant.
