In this problem, we explore the effect on the standard deviation of adding the same constant to each data value in a data set. c

onsider the following data set.
8, 16, 14, 8, 16

a) use the defining formula, the computation formula, or a calculator to compute s. (enter your answer to four decimal places.)

b) add 8 to each data value to get the new data set 16, 24, 22, 16, 24. compute s. (enter your answer to four decimal places.)

c) compare the results of parts (a) and (b). in general, how do you think the standard deviation of a data set changes if the same constant is added to each data value?

adding the same constant c to each data value results in the standard deviation remaining the same.

adding the same constant c to each data value results in the standard deviation increasing by c units.

adding the same constant c to each data value results in the standard deviation decreasing by c units.

there is no distinct pattern when the same constant is added to each data value in a set.

The standard deviation of both the data are the same which is 3.67 and adding the same constant c to each data value results in the standard deviation remaining the same.

What is the standard deviation?

It is defined as the measure of data disbursement, It gives an idea about how much is the data spread out.

We have a data set:

8, 16, 14, 8, 16

As we know the formula for standard deviation is:

\rm \sigma = \sqrt{\dfrac{ \sum (x_i-X)}{n}

Here σ is the standard deviation

xi is each value from the data set

X is the mean of the data set

n is the number of observation in data set.

X = (8+16+14+8+16)/5 = 12.4

n = 5

After calculating the standard deviation will be:

σ = 3.67

Add 8 to each data value to get the new data set 16, 24, 22, 16, 24.

New standard deviation:

σ(new) = 3.67

The standard deviation of both the data are same we can say the standard deviation does not change when we add a constant to each data value.

Adding the same constant c to each data value results in the standard deviation remaining the same.

Thus, the standard deviation of both the data are the same which is 3.67 and adding the same constant c to each data value results in the standard deviation remaining the same.

It is believed that 11% of all Americans are left-handed. In a random sample of 100 students from a particular college with 1012
tia_tia [17]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

We can calculate this confidence interval using the population proportion calculation. To do this we must find p' and q'

Where p' = 14/100= 0.14 (no of left handed sample promotion)

q' = 1-p' = 1-0.14= 0.86

Since the requested confidence level is CL = 0.98, then α = 1 – CL = 1 – 0.98 = 0.02/2= 0.01, z (0.01) = 2.326

Using p' - z alpha √(p'q'/n) for the lower interval - 0.14-2.326√(0.14*0.86/100)

= -2.186√0.00325

= -2.186*0.057

= 12.46%

Using p' + z alpha √(p'q'/n)

0.14+2.326√(0.14*0.86/100)

= 0.466*0.057

= 26.5%

Thus we estimate with 98% confidence that between 12% and 27% of all Americans are left handed.

Vladimir79 [104]

Answer:

18 students are likely to be wearing red

Step-by-step explanation:

From the question, we know a student either wears red , or blue, with the probability of a student wearing red is 3 times more probable than wearing white.

So, let’s say out of the 24 students, x of them are wearing white. What this practically mean is that 3 * x = 3x of the students would be expected to be wearing red.

Now, adding the number of people wearing red and white together in terms of x, we have x + 3x = 4x

We equate this to 24; 4x = 24 and x = 24/4; x = 6

The number wearing red probably is 3 * x = 3 * 6 = 18 people

Which of the following ratio is equivalent to 3/16? a. 16:3
Ostrovityanka [42]
If one ratio is equivalent to another, that means that you multiply the top and the bottom on one ratio by a constant to get the larger ratio. D does that here for us. We have to multiply 3 by 5 to get to 15, so 16 times 5 better be 80 and it is.
