What did researchers discover about genetic mutations that cause lactase persistence?

Biology
1 answer:
Anna007 [38]2 years ago
4 0

It is found in a non coding regulatory region (a "switch") upstream of the lactase gene.

The primary carbohydrate in milk, lactose, is an important source of energy for most young mammals.

Lactase is the enzyme that hydrolyzes lactose into glucose and galactose (or lactase-phlorizin-hydrolase, LPH). Since milk is a necessary part of young mammals' diets and since mammals cannot utilise lactose without this enzyme, lactase activity is crucial to the early development of most mammals.

Although the methods and evolutionary justifications for this downregulation are not well understood, lactase synthesis often falls once the weaning period is over. However, some people continue to produce lactase far into adulthood and can metabolize the lactose in fresh milk. This quality is known as LP (Lactase persistence).

The Precambrian Era is the least understood part of Earth history, yet it is arguably the most important. It began with the form
zhuklara [117]

Greenland has them; the intriguing Burgess shale (Cambrian); they use isotope dating to determine the ages of the rocks; Precambrian circumstances were similar to those on other worlds where life may have emerged.

This is further explained below.

How does understanding the Precambrian era enhance our chances of finding another planet that could one-day support life?

Generally, Precambrian rocks are generally exceedingly ancient. Greenland is one such site where scientists have been researching geology and geochronology (the age of the planet) for many years.

To identify whether a rock is of Precambrian origin, its age must be determined, and for such ancient rocks, scientists have developed isotopic dating techniques, which employ the rate at which one radioactive isotope decays into another, which is commonly measured in millions of years.

In conclusion, The Precambrian period spanned a very long time, yet all living organisms were single-celled. Multicellular creatures initially evolved in all their complexity during the Cambrian period

These Precambrian single-celled organisms, on the other hand, were capable of tolerating the harshest environmental conditions of the young Earth, such as scorching heat and gases that would be poisonous to most living things on Earth today, so understanding those early Precambrian conditions may shed light on life forms that could be found on other planets with similarly harsh environments.

How can local environmental changes have global effects?
Alex777 [14]

Answer:

D

Explanation:

Water and air circulate around the world in water currents and wind systems (like prevailing winds) respectively, hence distribute energy and whatever else they are carrying across the globe. This is why polluting the oceans in the equatorial region will have indirect consequences for marine life in the poles.

Pollution of air through emission of greenhouse gases in one part of the globe will contribute to global warming across the world because these emissions will be carried around by prevailing winds and diffuse across the atmosphere.

Global warming also causes climate change that subsequently causes the displacement or migration of organisms when this change in climate is unfavorable
