The height is the dependent variable measured by Miriam when she is testing the effect of red-colored light on potato plants (Option B).

What is the dependent variable?

The dependent variable can be defined as an experimental variable modified by the condition during an experiment.

Conversely, the independent variable doesn't change across all the experimental procedures.

In conclusion, the height is the dependent variable measured by Miriam when she is testing the effect of red-colored light on potato plants (Option B).

Explain how XY mice with a duplication of chromosome 1 develop
ovaries and a female phenotype.
Dahasolnce [82]

Answer:

Duplication of the Dax1 is associated to equivocal sex determination on how XY mice develop ovaries and a female phenotype which comes from strong expression of the homologous gene (Ahch) in the first stages of gonadal (and adrenal) differentiation.

Explanation:

Dose-Sensitive Sex Reversal Locus on Chromosome X, Gene 1 , DAX1∗ (officially, nuclear receptor subfamily 0, group B, member 1; NR0B1) is a member of the nuclear hormone receptor superfamily of transcription factors that functions primarily as a transcriptional repressor.

Duplication of the DAX1/NROB1 locus is associated with male-to-female sex reversal, that is ambiguous external genital differentiation ranges.

One X chromosome and one Y chromosome in each diploid cell of their bodies differencite males from females, who typically have two X chromosomes but XX males that are SRY-positive have two X chromosomes, with one of them containing genetic material from the Y chromosome, making them phenotypically male but genetically female.

DAX1 protein may be directly or indirectly involved in gonadal regulation of hypothalamic-pituitary function.

Cocoa is the dried and fully fermented fatty seed of the cacao tree from which chocolate is made. Climate

Cocoa can be grown up to 300 m above mean sea level. It requires a minimum of 90-100 mm rainfall per month with an annual rainfall of 1500-2000 mm. The plants need equitable climate with well distributed rainfall. If dry periods are prolonged, irrigation scheduling is necessary. The temperature range of 15°-39°C with optimum of 25°C is considered ideal.

Soil

Cocoa requires deep and well drained soils. Poorly drained soil affects growth of plants. Majority of area under Cocoa cultivation is on clay loam and sandy loam soil. It grows well in the pH range of 6.5 to 7.0.

Shade requirement

Cocoa was evolved as an under-storey crop in the Amazonian forests. Thus commercial cultivation of cocoa can be taken up in plantations where 50 per cent of light is ideally available. In India, coconut and arecanut gardens are suited best for cultivating Cocoa. Under arecanut 30-50% of sunlight penetrates through their canopy which can be intercepted by cocoa.
