Variety is the principle of training that is defined by changing equipment, exercises, and activities to avoid boredom, reduce the risk of overuse injuries, and increase motivation or adherence.

The principle of variety includes ensuring that the training activities use multiple training methods and exercises to increase the rate of interest and motivation for the athlete. Athletes who perform similar activities regularly for a long period might get bored and get discouraged to do it anymore.

For aerobics training, a variety would include changes in the training method, training field and rehearsal timings. It would also include variations within this training so that the continuous training was not always running for over 15 km but also performing cycle races.
