A substance that dissociates into ions when placed in water is called a(n) electrolyte.

An electrolyte is an ion-containing material that conducts electricity by the movement of the ions but not by the movement of electrons. In a polar solvent, like water, this includes the majority of soluble salts, acids, and bases. The material divides into cations and anions during the dissolution process, which causes them to scatter evenly across the solvent. There are also electrolytes in solid state.

Such a mixture is neutral electrically. Such a solution is pulled to the electrode with an abundance of electrons when an electric potential is applied to it, whereas the electrode with a deficiency of electrons attracts the solution's anions. A current exists when cations and anions move in opposition to one another inside the solution. Several gases, including hydrogen chloride (HCl), under conditions of high temperature or low pressure can also function as electrolytes.

It can Either be Transversal or Longitudinal.

It is Transversal when the particles of the medium move perpendicular to the wave motion.

It requires a medium and begin at a source with a disturbance
