Recovery of memories in response to a memory trace is referred to as consolidation. This is how and why we are able to recall memories from the distant past or ideas you haven't given much consideration to in a while.

As an illustration, a youngster picks up a language as they mature. After that, the youngster is adopted by a family who speaks a different tongue. The youngster then picks up the language of their family. The older kid or adult is then introduced to their original language once more after a period of time.
