Stimulus

Stimulus is the term that describes anything that causes an organism to react. Anything that effectively impinges upon any of the sensory apparatuses of a living organism, including physical phenomena both internal and external to the body is a stimulus. Stimulus can be internal (such as homeostatic imbalances), or external (such as vision and smell). Living organisms detect and respond to stimulus for them to survive in their environment.
