In the lab, you use a special balloon that is permeable to water but not sucrose to make an "artificial cell." The balloon is fi

lled with a solution of 20% sucrose and 80% water and is immersed in a beaker containing a solution of 40% sucrose and 60% water. The solution in the balloon is ________ relative to the solution in the beaker.

Answer: Hypotonic

Explanation:

A solution is said to be Hypotonic if it contains less concentration of non penetrating solute and more water relative to that inside the cell.

The solution of sucrose in the artificial cell contains less solute and more water when compared to the sucrose concentration and water content of the solution in the beaker. Hence the solution in the artificial cell is said to be a Hypotonic solution.

In this experiment above water will move out of the artificial cell by osmosis and the balloon will shrink. Because water moves from higher concentration to lower concentration

Which metabolic pathway would be utilized for sprinting?
Eddi Din [679]

Answer:

b) electron transport chain

Explanation:

During sprinting, muscles need a constant supply of ATPs (the energy currency of cells) to support the continuous movement. The electron transport chain is present in the inner mitochondrial membrane.

Oxidation of NADH and FADH2 through electron transport chain produces proton gradient across the membrane which in turn drives the synthesis of a large number of ATPs to support sprinting.
