You have a grindstone (a disk) that is 105.00 kg, has a 0.297-m radius, and is turning at 71.150 rpm, and you press a steel axe

against it with a radial force of 46.650 N. Assuming the kinetic coefficient of friction between steel and stone is 0.451. How many turns will the stone make before coming to rest?

Answer:

3.27 turns

Explanation:

To find how many turns (θ) will the stone make before coming to rest we will use the following equation:

\omega_{f}^{2} = \omega_{0}^{2} + 2\alpha*\theta

<u>Where:</u>

\omega_{f}: is the final angular velocity = 0

\omega_{0}: is the initial angular velocity = 71.150 rpm

α: is the angular acceleration

<em>First, we need to calculate the </em><em>angular acceleration (α)</em><em>. To do that, we can use the following equation:</em>

\alpha = \frac{\tau}{I}

<u>Where:</u>

I: is the moment of inertia for the disk

τ: is the torque

The moment of inertia is:

I = \frac{mr^{2}}{2}

<u>Where:</u>

m: is the mass of the disk = 105.00 kg

r: is the radius of the disk = 0.297 m

I = \frac{105.00 kg*(0.297 m)^{2}}{2} = 4.63 kg*m^{2}

Now, the torque is equal to:

\tau = -F x r = -\mu*F*r

<u>Where:</u>

F: is the applied force = 46.650 N

μ: is the kinetic coefficient of friction = 0.451

\tau = -\mu*F*r = -0.451*46.650 N*0.297 m = -6.25 N*m

The minus sign is because the friction force is acting opposite to motion of grindstone.

Having the moment of inertia and the torque, we can find the angular acceleration:

\alpha = \frac{-6.25 N*m}{4.63 kg*m^{2}} = -1.35 rad/s^{2}

Finally, we can find the number of turns that the stone will make before coming to rest:

0 = \omega_{0}^{2} + 2\alpha*\theta

\theta = -\frac{(\omega_{0})^{2}}{2\alpha} = -\frac{(71.150 \frac{rev}{min})^{2}}{2*(-1.35 \frac{rad}{s^{2}})*\frac{1 rev}{2\pi rad}*\frac{(60 s)^{2}}{(1 min)^{2}}} = 3.27 rev = 3.27 turns

I hope it helps you!

Calculate the de broglie wavelength (in picometers) of a hydrogen atom traveling at 440 m/s.
Aleonysh [2.5K]

De broglie wavelength, \lambda = \frac{h}{mv}, where h is the Planck's constant,  m is the mass and v is the velocity.

h = 6.63*10^{-34}

Mass of hydrogen atom,  m = 1.67*10^{-27}kg

v = 440 m/s

Substituting

   Wavelength \lambda = \frac{h}{mv} = \frac{6.63*10^{-34}}{1.67*10^{-27}*440} = 0.902 *10^{-9}m = 902 *10^{-12}m

1 pm = 10^{-12}m\\ \\ So , \lambda =902 pm

So  the de broglie wavelength (in picometers) of a hydrogen atom traveling at 440 m/s is 902 pm

What relationship exists between the amplitude of a wave and amount of disturbance in the water?
guapka [62]
A wave is a result of the disturbance in the equilibrium state.  There are two types of wave, transverse and longitudinal. Transverse wave affects amplitude while longitudinal wave affects the frequency of the wave. As for the transverse wave, the magnitude of the perpendicular disturbance of the wave is directly proportional to the amplitude of the wave. The higher the transverse disturbance the higher the amplitude.

If you were trying to build a soundproof room, which of the following materials would you choose in order to absorb the most sou
leonid [27]

Explanation :

Absorption coefficient of a material determines how much sound is absorbed by the material.

To build a soundproof room, Heavy curtains and carpet can be used. They reduce reverberation.

Reverberation means an echoing sound which persists for some time. For example, when we bang on a huge piece of metal, we hear the reverberation even after we stop banging.

Hence, option (A) and (D) are correct.

Must new substances be formed when you observe a chemical property? Explain
castortr0y [4]
Yes. It is rather a natural phenomenon. If you search and understand the process of chemical change or reaction that results to its chemical property outcome, it has a new formed substance. Unlike physical change or reaction it only changes in shape or form but the substance, compound or element in the matter is till the same. Furthermore, when chemical change is undergoing you notice the change in shape, size and from like the physical change but there is a change in the element, compound or substance. When you lit a fire on a paper the fire disorients, disorganizes and disturb the former positions of the atoms and because of the fire as catalyzer the atoms did its behavior –changing both intrinsic and extrinsic.
