Dr. Snow believed sewage dumped into the river or into cesspools near town wells could contaminate the water supply, leading to a rapid spread of disease. In August of 1854 Soho, a suburb of London, was hit hard by a terrible outbreak of cholera.

The pandemic was the work of a 'super-virus' The 1918 flu spread rapidly, killing 25 million people in just the first six months. ... It's now thought that many of the deaths were due to the development of bacterial pneumonias in lungs weakened by influenza.

The WHO recommends strategies on how to prevent malaria transmission by controlling the mosquito population and on how to diagnose and treat malaria infections. There are two main prevention methods: Protective bed nets treated with long-lasting insecticides prevent bites from malaria-infected mosquitoes and kill them.

Edward Jenner. In 1775 Jenner began to study the relationship between cowpox (a comparatively harmless disease) and the more dangerous and disfiguring smallpox. ... He hypothesized that exposure to cowpox rendered the body immune from smallpox. After nearly twenty years of experiments, he developed the first vaccine.

I don't know how effective the shot was sorry

The suprachiasmatic nucleus influences the release of melatonin by its effect on the ________________.
anyanavicka [17]

Answer:

Pineal gland

Explanation:

The suprachiasmatic nucleus is the paired nucleus made of about 1000 neurons each in the hypothalamus. The suprachiasmatic nucleus is involved in maintaining the endogenous clock or the internal clock.

The suprachiasmatic nucleus controls the circadian rhythm by controlling the amount of melatonin. The melatonin is produced by the pineal gland from the serotonin and tryptophan precursors. The hypothalamus thus controls the amount of the melatonin by regulating the pineal gland.

Thus, Pineal gland is the correct answer.

Which of the following is a true statement about lava that contains large amounts of dissolved gases? Lava that produces violent
anygoal [31]

Answer:

The dissolved gases produce violent eruption as they escape.

Explanation:

Magma contains dissolved gases and these dissolved gases induce vapor pressure on the magma. The magma is able to remain in the dissolved state itself without erupting because this vapor pressure is less than the confining pressure of the rock surrounding the magma.

One the vapor pressure exceeds this confining pressure the dissolved gases begin to expand and forms small gas bubbles.

The density of these gas bubbles called vesicles is less than the density of magma and thus naturally tries to push out. When the gas bubbles escape the magma is also pushed out. Thus greater amount of dissolved gases result in violent eruptions.
