Crater lake was formed when Mount Mazama produced a large eruption and collapsed to form a caldera, which then filled with water forming a lake.
Crater lake was formed approximately 7700 years ago, the caldera-forming changed the space all around the volcanic eruption. The pyroclastic flow of pumice and ash cover the area, which includes all the river, valleys that drained in Mount Mazama.
