Answer: (x^2+5x+6)/(x-2)

This is one single fraction. The stuff up top is x^2+5x+6. The stuff down below is x-2

============================================

Work Shown:

We multiply out the expressions (x+3) and (x+2) as they are both in the numerator. If you want, you can think of (x+2) as (x+2)/1

Multiplying (x+3) and (x+2) gives us this

(x+3)(x+2) = x(x+2) + 3(x+2) ... see note below

(x+3)(x+2) = x^2+2x + 3x + 6

(x+3)(x+2) = x^2 + 5x + 6

This is the stuff that will be on top in the final answer. The denominator x-2 stays the same.

note: I used the distribution property (a+b)(c+d) = a(c+d)+b(c+d)

Five bags of bark chipping and four trays of pansies cost £24.50. Three bags
Virty [35]

Not at all.

If she took option one, she would be missing one bag of bark chippings and four trays of pansies with only 5.50 left to spend.

If she took option two, she would be missing 3 bags of bark chippings and 3 trays of pansies with 10.75 left to spend.

Now, it is unknown what the price for a single bag or tray is however it seems that the bark chippings cost more than the pansies. If it seemed to be any option that worked, it would be option two where she can buy the rest seperate and have more to spend still.

However, she doesn't have enough to buy all the bags of bark chippings and pansies that she needs.

How do i do these two while using a proportion?
AnnZ [28]
For #2, the proportion would be .40/.25 and x/15, then you would cross multiply to find x. and for #3 the proportion would be 15/6 and 75/x and again you would cross multiply to find x. (:

Answer: perimeter = 6x+15

EXPLANATION

The perimeter of the triangle is the distance around the triangle.

We need to apply our ability to convert word problems in to mathematical expressions.

we were told that the bottom of the triangle is  units.

From the diagram perimeter

Four times the length of the bottom will be .

12 more than 4 times the bottom will be

Hence another side of the triangle is

Finally we were told that the last side is 3 more than the bottom, that will be
