What negative impact did Andrew Jackson have towards American Democracy?

Social Studies

Andrew Jackson had a negative impact because he would reward those loyal to him with things such as jobs, no matter if they had good skill levels for the job or not. This was highly undemocratic as not everybody had a fair chance.

He "rewarded" people with jobs, when those people had no skills for the jobs given. He also caused a historical event known as "The Trail Of Tears", which forced Cherokee Indians off of their land, which was good for the Americans, but not Americans who had relation with the Indians, and it was especially horrible for the Indians.

Why were enslaved African Americans were generally denied an education ?
USPshnik [31]

During the era of slavery in the United States, the education of African Americans, enslaved and free, was often discouraged, except for religious instruction, and eventually made illegal in many of the Southern states. It was believed that literacy was a threat to the institution of slavery. First, literacy facilitated knowledge about the successful slave revolution in Haiti of 1791–1804, the end of slavery in the British Empire in 1833, and the writings of abolitionists. Secondly, literacy allowed or potentially allowed slaves better access to information about the Underground Railroad and other routes to freedom.
