<span>Let the width of the rectangular plot of land be 'x' yards. Given that the length of the rectangular plot of land is 10 yards more than its width. So, width of the rectangular plot of land = (x + 10) yards. Also given that the area of the rectangular plot of land is 600 square yards. We know that, area of a rectangle = length * width That is, (x+10) * x = 600 x^2 + 10x = 600 x^2 + 10x - 600 = 0 x^2 + 30x - 20x -600 = 0 x(x + 30) - 20(x + 30) = 0 (x +30)(x -20) =0 Therefore, either (x + 30) = 0 or (x - 20) = 0 If x + 30 = 0, then x = -30 and If x - 20 = 0, then x = 20 Since 'x' represents the width of a rectangular plot of land it cannot be negative. Therefore, width of the rectangular plot of land = 20 yards length of the rectangular plot of land= x + 10 = 30 yards</span>

ira [324]

Given:

In an isosceles triangle LMN, LM=MN.

m\angle M=(3x+17)^\circ,m\angle L=(2x+36)^\circ

To find:

The measure of the angles L, M and N.

Solution:

In triangle LMN,

LM=MN                     (Given)

m\angle N=m\angle L=(2x+36)^\circ   (Base angles of an isosceles triangle are equal)

Now,

m\angle L+m\angle M+m\angle N=180^\circ

(2x+36)^\circ+(3x+17)^\circ+(2x+36)^\circ=180^\circ

(7x+89)^\circ=180^\circ

(7x+89)=180

On further simplification, we get

7x=180-89

7x=91

x=\dfrac{91}{7}

x=13

The value of x is 13. Using this value, we get

m\angle L=(2(13)+36)^\circ

m\angle L=(26+36)^\circ

m\angle L=62^\circ

Similarly,

m\angle M=(3(13)+17)^\circ

m\angle M=(39+17)^\circ

m\angle M=56^\circ

And,

m\angle N=m\angle L

m\angle N=62^\circ

Therefore, the measure of angles are m\angle L=62^\circ,m\angle M=56^\circ,m\angle N=62^\circ.

Solve for x and y
BigorU [14]
You can use elimination
7x - 3y = 4
-10x + 3y = 2
Add both equations
-3x = 6, x = -2
Plug in -2 for x in one equation
7(-2) - 3y = 4
-14 - 3y = 4
-3y = 18, y = -6
Solution: x = -2, y = -6
