3/4 + 3 1/2 = 4 1/4. Compare 4 1/4 to 4 2/3. To do this, make them into singular fractions (not mixed number fractions), so you get 17/4 and 14/3. Then cross multiply (first number's nominator times the 2nd number's denominator) so 17x3=51. Then do the other sides (2nd number's nominator times the 1st number's denominator), so 14x4=56. Since 56 is greater than 51, then the 2nd number (14/3 or 4 2/3) is largest. Meaning that Maria has MORE than enough paint.
