Use the conservation of momentum formula: m1v1 + m2v2 = v(m1 + m2)

(0.005kg)(250m/s) + (12kg)(0m/s) = v(0.005kg + 12kg)

v = ((0.005kg)(250m/s)) / (0.005kg + 12kg)

v = 0.104 m/s

A mercury thermometer is constructed as
Tamiku [17]

Answer:

The change in height of the mercury is approximately  2.981 cm

Explanation:

Recall that the formula for thermal expansion in volume is:

\frac{\Delta V}{V_0} =\alpha_V\, \Delta\, T\\\Delta V = V_0\,\, \alpha_V\,\,\Delta C

from which we solved for the change in volume \Delta V due to a given change in temperature \Delta T

We can estimate the initial volume of the mercury in the spherical bulb of diameter 0.24 cm ( radius R = 0.12 cm) using the formula for the volume of a sphere:

V_0=\frac{4}{3} \pi \, R^3\\V_0=\frac{4}{3} \pi \, (0.12\,cm)^3\\V_0=0.007238\,cm^3

Therefore, the change in volume with a change in temperature of 36°C becomes:

\Delta V = V_0\,\, \alpha_V\,\,\Delta C\\\Delta V = 0.007238229\, cm^3\,(0.000182)\,(36)\\\Delta V=0.0000474248\, cm^3

Now, we can use this difference in volume, to estimate the height of the cylinder of mercury with diameter 0.0045 cm (radius r= 0.00225 cm):

V_{cyl}=\pi r^2\,h\\h =\frac{V_{cyl}}{\pi r^2} \\h=\frac{0.0000474248\, cm^3}{\pi \, (0.00225\,cm)^2} \\h=2.98188 \,cm

Each plate of a parallel‑plate capacitor is a square of side 0.0479 m, and the plates are separated by 0.479 × 10 − 3 m. The cap
Anon25 [30]

Explanation:

It is known that the relation between electric field and potential is as follows.

             E = \frac{V}{d}

And, formula to calculate the capacitance is as follows.

           C = \frac{\epsilon_{o} A}{d}

              = \frac{8.854 \times 10^{-12} \times (0.479 m)^{2}}{0.479 \times 10^{-3}}

              = 4.24 \times 10^{-9} F

Hence, energy stored in a capacitor is as follows.

         W = \frac{1}{2}CV^{2}

          V = \sqrt{\frac{2W}{C}}

        E = \sqrt{\frac{2W}{d^{2}C}}

            = \frac{2 \times 8.11 \times 10^{-9} J}{(0.479 \times 10^{-3})^{2} \times 4.24 \times 10^{-9}}

            = 16.687 \times 10^{3} N/C

Thus, we can conclude that electric field strength E inside the capacitor is 16.687 \times 10^{3} N/C.

Alekssandra [29.7K]

Answer : The storm is 2.401 km far away from the place where Johnny is playing baseball with his friends.

Explanation:

Time taken by the sound wave of lightening  to reach the ear of Johnny:7 s

Approximate Speed of the sound in air = 343 m/s

Speed=\frac{Distance}{Time}=\frac{Distance}{7 sec}

Distance=Speed\times Time=343 m/s\times 7 s=2,401 m=2.401 km(1 km=1000 m)

The storm is 2.401 km far away from the place where Johnny is playing baseball with his friends.
