She simplified it wrong because you're only supposed to simplify it with the same numbers. For example: simplify 2/4. You divide it by 2/2. You do the same and it will be correct.

Answer:

<em>Explanation shown below</em>

Step-by-step explanation:

For 6:8 to be equal to another fraction, Tina needed to MULTIPLY both top and bottom by the same number, NOT RAISE TO A POWER.

<em><u>Multiplying by any number (both numerator & denominator) would make the other ratio equivalent.</u></em>

<em><u>Taking </u></em><em><u>"Square"</u></em><em><u> or </u></em><em><u>"raising to same power" </u></em><em><u> </u></em><em><u>WILL NOT</u></em><em><u> make the new ratio equivalent.</u></em>

Tina "raised 6 to 2nd power to get 36" and "raised 8 to 2nd power to get 64". <em>According to the rules, the new ratio won't be equal</em>.

Instead of raising to 2nd power, she could multiply by 2 (both numerator and denominator) to get 12:16. This ratio would have been equal to 6:8.

To solve for p, square both sides and move the equation to one side is equal to zero. Then factor. I chose -2 and -5 because -2 x -5 = 10 and -2 + -5 = -7. After factoring, solve p-5=0 and p-2=0. When one of those equals zero then the equation (p-5)(p-2)=0 is true.

Use quadratic formula solve .7x^2 - 28x - 7
beks73 [17]

Answer:

x = 2 + sqrt(5) or x = 2 - sqrt(5)

Step-by-step explanation using the quadratic formula:

Solve for x over the real numbers:

7 (x^2 - 4 x - 1) = 0

Divide both sides by 7:

x^2 - 4 x - 1 = 0

Add 1 to both sides:

x^2 - 4 x = 1

Add 4 to both sides:

x^2 - 4 x + 4 = 5

Write the left hand side as a square:

(x - 2)^2 = 5

Take the square root of both sides:

x - 2 = sqrt(5) or x - 2 = -sqrt(5)

Add 2 to both sides:

x = 2 + sqrt(5) or x - 2 = -sqrt(5)

Add 2 to both sides:

Answer:  x = 2 + sqrt(5) or x = 2 - sqrt(5)
