The way I perceive this is it's basically saying how you act under pressure, or stress, can transform your experience with it for either the good or bad. For example, stress is a chain reaction for some people. That stress leads to a series of negative emotions (their stress leads to this, then this leads to that, etc.). It's basically saying when you choose to view your experience with it and notice the lesson or help in it, it can completely transform your experience with it for the better.
