Liquid sodium is being considered as an engine coolant. How many grams of liquid sodium (minimum) are needed to absorb 1.00 MJ o

f energy (in the form of heat) if the temperature of the sodium is not to increase by more than 10.0 °C? Use CP = 30.8 J/(K·mol) for Na(l) at 500 K.

Energy absorb is calculated as  the product of mass, specific capacity and the change in temperature. It is expressed as:

H = nCpΔT

where n is the moles of substance, Cp is the specific heat capacity and ΔT is the change in temperature.

1 x 10^6 J = n ( 30.8 J/k mol )(10 K)
n = 3246.75 mol
mass = 74642.86 g liquid sodium

Answer:

2,637.30 grams of liquid sodium are needed to absorb 1.00 MJ of energy.

Explanation:

Molar heat capacity of sodium metal =C_p=30.8 J/(K mol)

Heat required to be absorbed by sodium = Q = 1.00 MJ= 1,000,000 J

Change in temperature required = ΔT =10.0°C = 283.15 K

Moles of sodium required = n

Q=n\times C_p\times \Delta T

1,000,000 J=n\times 30.8 J/(K mol)\times 283.15 K

n = 114.66 moles

Mass of 114.66 moles of sodium:

114.66 mol\times 23 g/mol=2,637.30 g

2,637.30 grams of liquid sodium are needed to absorb 1.00 MJ of energy.

Ammonia (NH3) clouds are present around some planets. Calculate the number of grams of ammonia produced by the reaction of 5.4 g
Komok [63]

Answer:

30.4 g. NH3

Explanation:

This problem tells us that the hydrogen (H2) is the limiting reactant, as there is "an excess of nitrogen." Using stoichiometry (the relationship between the various species of the equation), we can see that for every 3 moles of H2 consumed, 2 moles of NH3 are produced.

But before we can use that relationship to find the number of grams of ammonia produced, we need to convert the given grams of hydrogen into moles:

5.4 g x [1 mol H2/(1.008x2 g.)] = 2.67857 mol H2 (not using significant figures yet; want to be as accurate as possible)

Now, we can use the relationship between H2 and NH3.

2.67857 mol H2 x (2 mol NH3/3 mol H2) = 1.7857 mol NH3

Now, we have the number of moles of ammonia produced, but the answer asks us for grams. Use the molar mass of ammonia to convert.

1.7857 mol NH3 x 17.034 g. NH3/mol NH3 = 30.4 g. NH3 (used a default # of 3 sig figs)

Which ocean zone has the lowest water pressure?
Veseljchak [2.6K]
I think the correct answer would be the last option. The ocean zone which has the lowest water pressure would be the uppermost zone which is the Epipelagic zone. This zone is also called as the euphotic zone or the sunlit zone. It is the region which receives the most sunlight in order to allow photosynthesis.
