Answer:

The mass of the element is 141.03701 amu

Explanation:

The catch here is that it notes a " newly found element. " Otherwise you could just refer to the average atomic mass of the element in the periodic table, and receive your solution in a much faster way.

The first isotope has an atomic mass of 139.905 amu, and a respective percent abundance of 37.25%. The second isotope has an atomic mass of 141.709 amu, and the remaining percent abundance, 100% - 37.25% = 62.75% ( given ). We can calculate the mass of the unknown element by associating each percentage with the mass of their respective isotope, over 100%.

Mass = ( ( 139.905 amu )( 37.25% ) + ( 141.709 amu )( 62.75% ) )/ 100,

Mass = ( ( 5211.46125 ) + ( 8892.23975 ) ) / 100,

Mass = ( 14103.701 ) / 100 = 141.03701 amu

How do ethical guidelines make science safer ?
Thepotemich [5.8K]

Well, for one thing, they ensure that a scientist can't claim a certain result, which might be biased and thus inaccurate, because he or she is being paid by, say, big business interests. For another, they ensure that medicines or treatments can't be made available to the public without thorough testing, replication, and peer review.

The number of mole of a molecule is defined as its mass per molar mass. Using # mol = n, mass = m and molar mass = M and given t
Citrus2011 [14]
Given:
n = 0.0021 mol
M = 44 gram/mol

Required: m or the mass of the molecule

Solution:

M = m/n

Rearranging the expression,

m = M x n
m = 44 g/mol x 0.0021 mol

Evaluating the expression and cancelling units, we obtain,

m = 0.0924 grams

M is the molar mass. This value is very useful in chemistry calculations especially in calculating the amounts of reactants and products for a chemical reaction.
