I'm glad you asked

The prefix "iso" is used when all carbons except one form a continuous chain. ... The prefix "sec" or "s" is used when the functional group is bonded to a secondary carbon.

Why does acetic acid lose its buffering ability at very high pH values? Why does acetic acid lose its buffering ability at very
salantis [7]

Answer:

Because the optimal range of buffering for a formic acid potassium formate buffer is 2.74 ≤ pH ≤ 4.74.

Explanation:

Every buffer solution has an optimal effective range due to pH = pKa ± 1. Outside this range, there is not enough acid molecules or conjugate base molecules to sustain the pH without variation. There is a certain amount of both molecules that has to be in the solution to maintain a pH controlled.

Being for the formic acid the pKa 3.74, the optimal effective range is between 2.74 and 4.74.  Upper or lower these range a formic acid/potassium formate buffer does not work.

Which of the following compounds has the highest boiling point.
nlexa [21]
Answer:
            1-<u>Pentanol </u>has the highest boiling point.

Explanation:
                   Boiling points of given compounds are as follow,

                 1) 2-Pentanone  =  101 °C

                 2) 1-Pentanol  =  138 °C

                 3)  Pentane  =  36.1 °C

                 4)  Pentanal  =  103 °C

Pentanol has greatest boiling point as compare to others because it involes a strongest intermolecular interactions called as hydrogen bond interactions. Remaining compounds lack the direct attachement of hydrogen to most electrnegative atom like oxygen which is present in 1-Pentanol.

A 0.211 g sample of carbon dioxide, CO2, has a volume of 560 mL and a pressure of 429 mmHg whats the temperature of the gas in K
SCORPION-xisa [38]

The temperature of the gas sample is 813 K.

<u>Explanation:</u>

We have to use the ideal gas equation to find the temperature of the gas sample.

The ideal gas equation is PV = nRT

Pressure, P = 429 mm Hg = 0.56 atm

Volume, V = 560 mL = 0.56 L

R = gas constant = 0.08205 L atm mol⁻¹K⁻¹

Mass = 0.211 g

Molar mass of carbon di oxide = 44.01 g / mol

Moles, n = $\frac{given mass}{molar mass} = \frac{0.211 g}{44.01 g/mol}

              = 0.0047 mol

Now, we have to plugin the above values in the above equation, we will get the temperature as,

$T= \frac{PV}{nR}

T = $\frac{0.56  \times 0.56}{0.08205 \times 0.0047}

 = 813 K

So the temperature of the gas sample is 813 K.
