A Nichrome wire is used as a heating element in a toaster. From the moment the toaster is first turned on to the moment the wire

reaches it maximum temperature, the current in the wire drops by 20% from its initial value. What is the temperature change in the wire? The temperature coefficient for Nichrome is α = 0.0004 (°C)-1.

Answer:

Temperature change in the wire is 625°C

Explanation:

Let the initial current in the wire be I₀

Thus,

the final current in the wire will be, I = (1 - 0.20) × I₀ = 0.80I₀

Given α = 0.0004 1/°C

Now,

Resistance = (potential difference (E))/current  (I)

also

R = R₀ [1 + αΔT]

Where ΔT is the increase in temperature , thus

E/I = E/I₀ [1 + α × ΔT)

on substituting the values in the above equation, we get

1/(0.80I₀) = 1/(I₀) × [1 + 0.0004 × ΔT]

or

1/(0.80) = [1 + 0.0004 × ΔT)]

or

ΔT = 625°C

a Car with a mass of 2000 kg is moving around a circular curve at a uniform velocity of 25 m/s the curve has a radius of 80 m wh
Viefleur [7K]
Well, first of all, the car is not moving at a uniform velocity, because,
on a curved path, its direction is constantly changing.  Its speed may
be constant, but its velocity isn't.

The centripetal force on a mass 'm' that keeps it on a circle with radius 'r' is

             F = (mass) · (speed)² / (radius).

For this particular car, the force is

                    (2,000 kg) · (25 m/s)² / (80 m)

                 = (2,000 kg) · (625 m²/s²) / (80 m)

                 = (2,000 · 625 / 80)  (kg · m / s²)

                 =              15,625  newtons .

What is the weight of a box with a mass of 150 kg on Earth?
joja [24]

The weight of the box with the given mass on Earth is 1470 Newtons.

Given the data in the question;

  • Mass of box; m = 150kg
  • Weight of box; W = \ ?

<h3>Weight</h3>

Weight is the force acting on the mass of a particular object or particle due to gravity. It is the gravitational force acting on an object with mass. It is measured in newtons. It is expressed as;

W = m * g

Where m is mass of object and g is acceleration due to gravity on earth ( g = 9.8m/s^2 )

To find the weight of the box, we substitute our values into the expression above;

W = 150kg * 9.8m/s^2\\\\W = 1470kgm/s^2\\\\W = 1470N

Therefore, the weight of the box with the given mass on Earth is 1470 Newtons.

The neurons of giant squids, for example, consist of axons with very large radii, which allows the squid to react very quickly w
Alinara [238K]

Answer:

100

Explanation:

\rho_m = Resistivity of axon

r = Radius of axon

t = Thickness of the membrane

\rho_a = Resistivity of the axoplasm

Speed of pulse is given by

v=\sqrt{\dfrac{\rho_mrt}{2\rho_a}}

So, radius is given by

r=\dfrac{2\rho_a}{\rho_mt}v^2

If radius is increased by a factor of 10 new radius will be

r_2=\dfrac{2\rho_a}{\rho_mt}(10v)^2\\\Rightarrow r_2=100\dfrac{2\rho_a}{\rho_mt}v^2\\\Rightarrow r_2=100r

So, The radius will increase by a factor of 100.
