In this item, we are instructed that the copper ion is to be reacted with the ion of the chlorine. The ion for copper is positively charged (cation) because it has to lose some of its electron in order to achieve stability. As the charge suggests, the number of electrons is 2.

The counterion (anion) is the chloride which can be written as Cl⁻¹. Since the charge of Cl is only -1, two of this anion should be allowed to react with Cu²⁺ so that the formed molecule is neutral. The formula is therefore CuCl₂.

Answer : The chemical formula will be, CuCl_2

Explanation :

According to the question, the (Cu^{2+}) ion reacted with the chloride ion and the chloride ion is the counter ion in the chemical formula.

As we know that the copper ion is a cation (positively charged ion) and copper has ability to lose 2 electrons easily to achieve the stability.

And the counter ion is the chloride ion which is an anion (negatively charged ion) and chloride ion has ability to gain electrons to achieve the stability. The chloride ion is written as, Cl^{-1} that means it has (-1) charge.

From this we conclude that to maintain the electricalneutrality, two chloride ion will react with the 1 copper ion.

Thus, the chemical formula becomes, CuCl_2

Platinum is one of the most dense elements (d = 21.5 g/cm3). What is the volume of a 10.0 g sample of the metal?
kvasek [131]

Answer:

0.465

Explanation:

To find the volume of a substance, divide the mass by the density.

M/D = V

10.0 / 21.5 = 0.4651163

Then round to 3 significant figures: and the density is 0.465
