Answer:

(a) Spring constant =  1850 N/m.

(b) Energy stored in the spring = 9.25 J.

(c) Muzzle velocity of the dart =  43.01 m/s.

Explanation:

(a) Spring constant

From hook's law,

F = ke ...................... Equation 1

Where F = force on the gun, k = spring constant of the gun, e = extension of the gun's spring.

Making k  subject of the equation,

k = F/e ............... Equation 2

Given: F = 185 N, e = 10 cm = 0.1 m.

Substitute into equation 2

k = 185/0.1

k = 185/0.1

k = 1850 N/m.

Hence the spring constant = 1850 N/m.

(b) Energy stored in the spring,

E = 1/2ke²............... Equation 3

Where E = Energy stored in the spring, k = spring constant, e = extension.

Given: k = 1850 N/m, e = 0.1 m.

Substitute into equation 3

E = 1/2(1850)(0.1)²

E = 925(0.01)

E = 9.25 J.

(c) Muzzle velocity of the dart.

Kinetic energy of the dart = 1/2mv²

Note: The kinetic energy of the dart is equal to the energy stored in the sprig.

E = 1/2mv²

Where m = mass of the dart, v = velocity of the dart.

Making v the subject of the equation,

v = √(2E/m)............... Equation 4

Given: E = 9.25 J, m = 10 g = 0.01 kg

Substituting these values into equation 4

v = √(2×9.25/0.01)

v = √(18.5/0.01)

v = √1850

v = 43.01 m/s.

(a) Calculate the force (in N) needed to bring a 1100 kg car to rest from a speed of 85.0 km/h in a distance of 125 m (a fairly
nasty-shy [4]

(a) -2451 N

We can start by calculating the acceleration of the car. We have:

u=85.0 km/h = 23.6 m/s is the initial velocity

v = 0 is the final velocity of the car

d = 125 m is the stopping distance

So we can use the following equation

v^2 - u^2 = 2ad

To find the acceleration of the car, a:

a=\frac{v^2-u^2}{2d}=\frac{0-(23.6 m/s)^2}{2(125 m)}=-2.23 m/s^2

Now we can use Newton's second Law:

F = ma

where m = 1100 kg to find the force exerted on the car in order to stop it; we find:

F=(1100 kg)(-2.23 m/s^2)=-2451 N

and the negative sign means the force is in the opposite direction to the motion of the car.

(b) -1.53\cdot 10^5 N

We can use again the equation

v^2 - u^2 = 2ad

To find the acceleration of the car. This time we have

u=85.0 km/h = 23.6 m/s is the initial velocity

v = 0 is the final velocity of the car

d = 2.0 m is the stopping distance

Substituting and solving for a,

a=\frac{v^2-u^2}{2d}=\frac{0-(23.6 m/s)^2}{2(2 m)}=-139.2 m/s^2

So now we can find the force exerted on the car by using again Newton's second law:

F=ma=(1100 kg)(-139.2 m/s^2)=-1.53\cdot 10^5 N

As we can see, the force is much stronger than the force exerted in part a).

Two identical conducting spheres, A and B, carry equal charge. They are separated by a distance much larger than their diameters
Vesnalui [34]

Answer:

C. \frac{3F}{8}

Explanation:

Let initial charges on both spheres be,q

F=\frac{Kq^2}{d^2}   \ \ \  \ \ \  \ \ \  \ \_i

When the sphere C is touched by A, the final charges on both will be,\frac{q}{2}

#Now, when C is touched by B, the final charges on both of them will be:

q_c=q_d=\frac{q/2+q}{2}\\\\=\frac{3q}{4}\\

Now the force between A and B is calculated as:

F\prime=\frac{k\times\frac{q}{2}\times \frac{3q}{4}}{d^2}\\F\prime=\frac{3F}{8}

Hence the electrostatic force becomes 3F/8

An object at rest on a flat, horizontal surface explodes into two fragments, one seven times as massive as the other. The heavie
leva [86]

To solve the problem it is necessary to apply conservation of the moment and conservation of energy.

By conservation of the moment we know that

MV=mv

Where

M=Heavier mass

V = Velocity of heavier mass

m = lighter mass

v = velocity of lighter mass

That equation in function of the velocity of heavier mass is

V = \frac{mv}{M}

Also we have that m/M = 1/7 times

On the other hand we have from law of conservation of energy that

W_f = KE

Where,

W_f = Work made by friction

KE = Kinetic Force

Applying this equation in heavier object.

F_f*S = \frac{1}{2}MV^2

\mu M*g*S = \frac{1}{2}MV^2

\mu g*S = \frac{1}{2}( \frac{mv}{M})^2

\mu = \frac{1}{2} (\frac{1}{7}v)^2

\mu = \frac{1}{98}v^2

\mu = \frac{1}{g(98)(5.1)}v^2

Here we can apply the law of conservation of energy for light mass, then

\mu mgs = \frac{1}{2} mv^2

Replacing the value of \mu

\frac{1}{g(98)(5.1)}v^2  mgs = \frac{1}{2}mv^2

Deleting constants,

s= \frac{(98*5.1)}{2}

s = 249.9m
