The wind-chill index is modeled by the function W = 13.12 + 0.6215T − 11.37v0.16 + 0.3965Tv0.16 where T is the temperature (°C)

and v is the wind speed (km/h). When T = 12°C and v = 18 km/h, by how much would you expect the apparent temperature W to drop if the actual temperature decreases by 1°C? (Round your answers to two decimal places.)

Answer:

Δw=1.25°C

Explanation:

Given that

w=13.12 +0.6215 T-11.37 v^{0.16}+0.3965 T v^{0.16}

Given that T= 12°C and v=19 km/h

Now to find the drop in the apparent temperature w

\dfrac{dw}{dT}=0.6215 +0.3965v^{0.16}

So

\dfrac{\Delta w}{\Delta T}= 0.6215 +0.3965 v^{0.16}

Now by putting the values v=19 km/hr and ΔT=1

\dfrac{\Delta w}{1}=0.6215 +0.3965\times 18^{0.16}

Δw=1.25°C

So we can say that when temperature is decrease by 1°C then apparent temperature will decrease by 1.25°C at given velocity.

The size of a balloon increases when the pressure inside it increases. The balloon gets bigger when it is left in the heat from
Masteriza [31]

Explanation:

This happens because the gas inside tend to expand because its temperature gets higher.

This is why the balloon that is put in a freezer for too long tend to gets smaller, because the gas temperature that is inside the balloon decreases.

(you can try it at home)

It is related to the temperature of the gas.

A brave child decides to grab onto an already spinning merry‑go‑round. The child is initially at rest and has a mass of 34.5 kg.
rodikova [14]

Answer:

the moment of inertia of the merry go round is 38.04 kg.m²

Explanation:

We are given;

Initial angular velocity; ω_1 = 37 rpm

Final angular velocity; ω_2 = 19 rpm

mass of child; m = 15.5 kg

distance from the centre; r = 1.55 m

Now, let the moment of inertia of the merry go round be I.

Using the principle of conservation of angular momentum, we have;

I_1 = I_2

Thus,

Iω_1 = I'ω_2

where I' is the moment of inertia of the merry go round and child which is given as I' = mr²

Thus,

I x 37 = ( I + mr²)19

37I = ( I + (15.5 x 1.55²))19

37I = 19I + 684.7125

37I - 19 I = 684.7125

18I = 684.7125

I = 684.7125/18

I = 38.04 kg.m²

Thus, the moment of inertia of the merry go round is 38.04 kg.m²

Your friend says that for a moving object to continue moving, a force must be continually applied to it. Do you agree with your
Zigmanuir [339]

Answer:

I would disagree with my friend because that according to Newton's first law, an object in motion will continue to be in motion until stopped by another object/force. If the object is already moving, it will stay in motion until something else stops it. There is no need for a force to be <em>continually</em> applied to it while it's already moving.
