Rank the following salts in order of decreasing pH of their 0.1 M aqueous solutions.(a) FeCl2, FeCl3, MgCl2, KClO2 .(b) NH4Br, N
Firlakuza [10]

Answer:

a) FeCl2, FeCl3, MgCl2, KClO2.

KClO2 --> K+ + ClO2-; ClO2- will hydrolyse to form HClO +OH-

Mg+2, Fe+2 and Fe+3 ions will form acidic solutions, since theyfom slightly amount of

Mg+2 + 2H2O <-> Mg(OH)2 + 2H+

Fe+2 + 2H2O <-> Fe(OH)2 + 2H+

Fe+3 + 3H2O <-> Fe(OH)3 + 3H+

Therefore;

decreasing pH is high pH to low pH:

KClO2 > MgCl2 > FeCl2 > FeCl3

b) NH4Br, NaBrO2, NaBr, NaClO2.

NH4Br is acidic, forms NH4+ and NH4+ dnates H+ to form NH3 andH+

NaBrO2 is basic, forms Na+ + BrO2- then H2O + BrO2- HBrO2

NABr is neutral, NaClO2 is basics, forms Na+ + ClO2-then H2O + ClO2- HClO2

decreasig pH:

NaClO2 > NaBrO2 > NaBr >NH4Br

Note that HClO2 is stronger acid than HBrO2, therefore, expectmore HBrO2 formation

NaBrO2 > NaClO2 > NaBr >NH4Br

A concentrated salt solution has a mass of 5.222 g for a 5.000 mL sample.
ad-work [718]

The specific gravity or relative density of a substance is the ratio of its density to the density of a reference material. The relative density of the concentrated salt solution is 1.044.

Mathematically;

Density of the concentrated salt = mass of salt/volume of salt = 5.222 g/5.000 mL = 1.044 g/mL

In the case of specific gravity, the reference material is always water and water has a density of 1 g/mL.

Hence, specific gravity of the concentrated salt solution =

Density of concentrated salt solution/density of equal volume of water

= 1.044 g/mL/1 g/mL

= 1.044

Note that specific gravity is dimensionless.

What expression approximates the volume of O2 consumed, measure at STP, when 55 g of Al reacts completely with excess O2?2 Al(s)
Genrish500 [490]

Answer:

34.28 L ( 1.5*22.4 L)

Explanation:

Calculation of the moles of aluminum as:-

Mass = 55 g

Molar mass of aluminum = 26.981539 g/mol

The formula for the calculation of moles is shown below:

moles = \frac{Mass\ taken}{Molar\ mass}

Thus,

Moles= \frac{55\ g}{26.981539\ g/mol}

Moles= 2.0384\ mol

According to the reaction:-

4Al+3O_2\rightarrow 2Al_2O_3

4 moles of aluminum react with 3 moles of oxygen gas

1 mole of aluminum react with \frac{3}{4} moles of oxygen gas

2.0384 moles of aluminum react with \frac{3}{4}\times 2.0384 moles of oxygen gas

Moles of oxygen gas = 1.5288 moles

At STP,

Pressure = 1 atm

Temperature = 273.15 K

Using ideal gas equation as:

PV=nRT

where,

P is the pressure

V is the volume

n is the number of moles

T is the temperature

R is Gas constant having value = 0.0821 L.atm/K.mol

Applying the equation as:

1 atm × V = 1.5288 mol × 0.0821 L.atm/K.mol × 273.15 K

⇒V = 34.28 L ( 1.5*22.4 L)
