The atomic mass of a nitrogen atom (N) is 14.0 u, while that of an oxygen atom (O) is 16.0 u. Three diatomic gases have the same

temperature: nitrogen (N2), oxygen (O2), and nitric oxide (NO). Rank these gases in ascending order (smallest first), according to the values of their translational rms speeds.
a. N2, O2, NO

b. O2, NO, N2

Answer:

c.O_2,NO,N_2

Explanation:

We are given that

Atomic mass of nitrogen=14 u

Atomic mass of oxygen=16 u

Molar mass of oxygen gas(O_2)=16\times 2=32u

Molar mass of nitrogen(N_2)=2\times 14=28 u

Molar mass of nitric oxide(NO)=16+14=30 u

Translational rms speed=v=\sqrt{\frac{3RT}{M}}

Where R=Gas constant

M=Molar mass

T=Temperature (in K)

Rms speed is inversely proportional to square root of molar mass

v_{rms}\propto\frac{1}{\sqrt M}

If molar mass is high then translational rms speed is less when the molar mass is less then the translational rms speed is high.

Therefore, the translational rms speed of oxygen is large and translationals rms speed of nitrogen gas is small.

O_2,NO,N_2

Option c is true

Which graph illustrates constant speed and velocity?
boyakko [2]

The correct graph is D.

The graph A is a straight line sloping downwards and it shows that the speed of the body is decreasing at a constant rate. Therefore, this s a graph of a body that is under a constant deceleration.

The graph B is a straight line which slopes upwards. Hence the graph shows that the speed of the body increases at a constant rate. Therefore, this is a graph of a body that is accelerating at a constant rate.

The graph C is curved line, which curves upwards. The slope of the curve increases with time. This is therefore, a graph of a body which is under increasing acceleration.

The graph D, however is a straight line parallel to the time axis. The speed of the body has the same value at all times. Therefore, Graph D is the graph which shows the motion of a body with constant speed.

The answers would be:

1. Electron cloud

2. Electrons, Electrons, Electrons

3. Nucleus, nucleus

4. Protons, protons

5. Neutrons, Neutrons

6. Direct, direct.

7. Inverse, inverse

8. No relationship, no relationship

9. Experimental control

10. Controlled variables

Here is more about the question:

An atom has 3 subatomic particles:

Proton: positively charged particles

Electron: Negatively charged particles

Neutrons: Neutrally charged particles

The nucleus is made up of the protons and neutrons, while the electrons are found outside, within the electron cloud.

Electrons are very important in bonding. It is also heavily involved in electricity. Electricity is the flow of electrons through a conductor.

Relationships in a graph:

For direct relationships, you just need to remember, when one goes up, the other one goes up too.

Inverse relationships on the other hand, when one goes up the other goes down.

If no change occurs, then we can say that there is no relationship.

What happens as a result of the pulses passing by each other?
nadezda [96]

Answer:

After pulses pass through each other, each pulse continues along its original direction of travel, and their original amplitudes remain unchanged.

Explanation:

Constructive interference takes place when two pulses meet each other to create a larger pulse.
