Answer:

MgBr_2 is the empirical formula of the sample.

Explanation:

Mass of magnesium = 450 g

Moles of magnesium  =\frac{450 g}{24 g/mol}=0.01875 mol

Mass of bromine = 2.95 g

Moles of bromine =\frac{2.95 g}{80 g/mol}=0.03687 mol

In order to determine the empirical formula we will divide all the moles of each element with the smallest value of moles.

For magnesium :

\frac{0.01875 mol}{0.03687 mol}=0.5085\approx 0.5

For bromine :

\frac{0.03687 mol}{0.03687 mol} =1

The empirical formula of the sample:

Mg_{0.5}Br_1=Mg_{\frac{1}{2}}Br_1=MgBr_2

MgBr_2 is the empirical formula of the sample.

We need to find the number of moles that each of the given substances. The molar mass of magnesium is 24.3 g/mol and Bromine has a molar mass of 79.90 g/mol. From the given mass of each species, the moles of Mg and Br are 0.018 and 0.369 respectively. There are 2 Br in one Mg. The sample is MgBr2.

If 2.50 mol of copper and 5.50 mol of silver nitrate are available to react by single replacement, identify the limiting reactan
PIT_PIT [208]

Answer:

The limiting reactant is the copper

Explanation:

Moles are the standard unit at which you can compare values, and copper has fewer moles than Silver nitrate, so in a reaction, it would be used up first, leaving Silver nitrate in excess.

Is it possible for a balloon with an initial pressure of 200.0 kPa to naturally expand to four times its initial volume when the
seropon [69]
Yes it is possible for a balloon to expand under these conditions. When objects are exposed to an atmospheric pressure beyond their capabilities, their physical characteristics change. This is because, molecules within the balloon are constantly moving and reacting to its external environment.

Calculate the mole fraction of each component in a solution with 6.87 g of sodium chloride (NaCl) dissolved in 65.2 g of water.
zheka24 [161]

Answer:

mole fraction of NaCl = 0.03145.

mole fraction of water = 0.9686.

Explanation:

  • Mole fraction is an expression of the concentration of a solution or mixture.
  • It is equal to the moles of one component divided by the total moles in the solution or mixture.
  • The summation of mole fraction of all mixture components = 1.

mole fraction of NaCl = (no. of moles of NaCl) / (total no. of moles).

<em>no. of moles of NaCl = mass/molar mass </em>= (6.87 g)/(58.44 g/mol) = 0.1176 mol.

<em>no. of moles of water = mass/molar mass</em> = (65.2 g)/(18.0 g/mol) = <em>3.622 mol.</em>

<em></em>

∴ mole fraction of NaCl = (no. of moles of NaCl) / (total no. of moles) = (0.1176 mol)/(0.1176 mol + 3.622 mol) = 0.03145.

<em>∵ mole fraction of NaCl + mole fraction of water = 1.0.</em>

∴ mole fraction of water = 1.0 - mole fraction of NaCl = 1.0 - 0.03145 = 0.9686.
