Cystic fibrosis is a disease that makes it difficult to breathe. It is a type of genetic (inherited) disorder which affects the cells that produce mucus, sweat and digestive juices because a defective gene causes the secretions to become sticky and thick. It affects the lungs, but also the pancreas, liver, kidneys, and intestine.Breathlessness is one of the main symptoms of this genetic disorder.
