The gold lottery was part of a larger land lottery, and that lottery encompassed the land which was owned by the Cherokee.
The Cherokee did attempt to sue, however they lost the court case. This was the beginning of the end of the Cherokee in Georgia.

It is  therefore the pleasure one gets minus the pain that the person will suffer of the alternative.
