Posthypnotic suggestions are those made to the client, at the end of the session while still in a trance, that refer to feelings, behaviors, or memories to be remembered in some future context. The suggestions are connected to a physical event that is likely to be present in the client's environment, for example: the Chinua therapist told him, just before he awakened from a hypnotic state, that over the next few days he would feel sick whenever he caught a cigarette. Posthypnotic suggestions are made in the final minutes of the session or less. Its effects rarely last longer than a week.
