Colby and Jaquan are growing bacteria in an experiment in a laboratory. Colby starts with 50 bacteria in his culture and the num

ber of bacteria doubles every 2 hours. Jaquan has a different type of bacteria that doubles every 3 hours. How many bacteria should Jaquan start with so that they have the same amount at the end of the day?

Here's the general formula for bacteria growth/decay problems

Af = Ai (e^kt)

where:
Af = Final amount
Ai = Initial amount
k = growth rate constant
t = time

But there's another formula for a doubling problem.
kt = ln(2)

So, Colby (1)
k1A = ln(2) / t
k1A = ln(2) / 2 = 0.34657 per hour.

So, Jaquan (2)
k2A = ln(2) / t
k2A = ln(2) /3 = 0.23105 per hour.

We need to use the rate of Colby and Jaquan in order to get the final amount in 1 day or 24 hours.

Af1 = 50(e^0.34657(24))
Af1 = 204,800

Af2 = 204,800 = Ai2(e^0.23105(24))
Af2 = 800

Artist 52 [7]

Answer:

6 weeks

Step-by-step explanation:

Easier way to solve: If she takes 7 quizzes each week, 7 times something (amount of weeks) equals 42.

7 X 6 = 42

Solving with algebra: We know that hanna takes six quizzes a week and takes a total of 42 quizzes, therefore the unknown (x) is the amount of weeks she takes the quizzes.

Amount of weeks X amount of tests per weeks = 42 quizzes

x X 7 = 42

42/7 = 6

A party rental company has chairs and tables for rent. The total cost to rent 3 chairs and 2 tables is $22. The total cost to re
Cloud [144]

Answer:

The cost to rent each chair and each table are $1.5 and $8.75 respectively

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x represent 1 chair

Let y represent 1 table

Therefore

3x + 2y = 22 ------------(1)

5x + 6y = 60 ------------(2)

Multiply (1) by 5 and (2) by 3

15x + 10y = 110 ----------(3)

15x + 18y = 180 ------------(4)

Subtract (3) from (4)

8y = 70

Divide through by 8

y = $8.75

Substitute y = 8.75 in (1)

3x + 2y = 22

3x + 2(8.75) = 22

3x + 17.5 = 22

Collect like terms

3x = 22 - 17.5

3x = 4.5

Divide through by 3

x =$1.5

Goshia [24]

Answer:

D.) 1,000 ft³

If the base of the pool is 200 square feet in size, then we can just multiply 200 by the depth of 5 to equal 1,000 ft³ which is equal to the volume of the pool.
