The formula for an area of a circle is A= pi(r)^2
so if you plug in 5 to r (because it’s the radius) you should get A= 78.5

Use calculus to find the absolute maximum and minimum values of the function. (round all answers to three decimal places.) f(x)
Allisa [31]
Part A:

Given the function f(x)=x+2\cos(x), the absolute maximum or minimum occurs when f'(x)=0.

f'(x)=0 \\  \\ \Rightarrow1-2\sin{x}=0 \\  \\ \Rightarrow2\sin{x}=1 \\  \\ \Rightarrow\sin{x}= \frac{1}{2}  \\  \\ \Rightarrow x=\sin^{-1}{\frac{1}{2}}= \frac{\pi}{6}

Using the second derivative test,

f''(x)=-2cosx \\  \\ \Rightarrow f''\left( \frac{\pi}{6} \right)=-2\cos{\left( \frac{\pi}{6} \right)}=-1.732

Since the second derivative gives a negative number, the given function has a maximum point at x=\frac{\pi}{6}.

And the maximum point is given by:

f\left( \frac{\pi}{6} \right)=\frac{\pi}{6}+2\cos\left( \frac{\pi}{6} \right) \\  \\ =0.5236+2(0.8660)=0.5236+1.732 \\  \\ =\bold{2.256}

i.e. \left(\frac{\pi}{6},\ 2.256\right)

Part B:

Given the function f(x)=e^{-x}-e^{-2x}, the absolute maximum or minimum occurs when f'(x)=0.

f'(x)=0 \\ \\ \Rightarrow-e^{-x}+2e^{-2x}=0 \\ \\ \Rightarrow2e^{-2x}=e^{-x} \\ \\ \Rightarrow2e^{-x}=1 \\ \\ \Rightarrow e^{-x}=\frac{1}{2} \\  \\ \Rightarrow-x=\ln \frac{1}{2}=-0.6931 \\  \\ \Rightarrow x=0.6931

Using the second derivative test,

f''(x)=e^{-x}-4e^{-2x} \\ \\ \Rightarrow f''(0.6931)=e^{-0.6931}-4e^{-2(0.6931)} \\  \\ =0.5-4e^{-1.386}=0.5-4(0.25)=0.5-1 \\  \\ =-0.5

Since the second derivative gives a negative number, the given function has a maximum point at x=0.6931.

And the maximum point is given by:

f(0.6931)=e^{-0.6931}-e^{-2(0.6931)} \\  \\ =0.5-e^{-1.386}=0.5-0.25=\bold{0.25}

i.e. (0.693, 0.25)

The bases of a prism are right triangles with side lengths 6 meters, 8 meters, and 10 meters. The height of the prism is 3 meter
Mariulka [41]
Given:
S1 = 6 m
S2 = 8 m
S3 = 10 m
h = 3 m

Lateral Area Formula :
LA = hP  ; height * perimeter
     = 3m * (6 + 8 + 10)
     = 3m * 24
LA = 72 m²

Surface Area Formula:
SA = 2B + hP       : B = area of the base  = ab / 2 = (6m * 8m)/2 = 48/2 = 24m²
SA = 2(24m²) + 72m²
SA = 48 m² + 72 m²
SA = 120 m²

Bobby Joe and Billy ray went fishing at the local watering hole and caught a total of 51 fish. Billy Rat caught 17 fewer fish th
blondinia [14]

Answer:

Bobby Joe caught 34 fishes

Billy Ray caught 17 fishes

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number of fish Bobby Joe caught = y

Let the number of Billy Ray caught = x

Total number of fish caught = 51 fishes

x + y = 51......... Equation 1

Billy Ray caught 17 fewer fish than Bobby Joe.

y = x - 17

Write an expression you can use to find out how many fish, f, each boy caught.

Substitute x - 17 for y in Equation 1

x + y = 51......... Equation 1

x + (x - 17) = 51

x + x - 17 = 51

2x = 51 - 17

2x = 34

x = 34/2

x = 17

Hence, Bobby Joe caught 17 fishes

x + y = 51

17 + y = 51

y = 51 - 17

y = 34

Hence, Billy ray caught 34 fishes
