You are driving a car with an automatic transmission; the shifter is mounted on the steering column. When you press down on the

brake, the pedal goes all the way to the floorboard. Name the correctly ordered steps you would take in response to this problem.

Answer:

From the narrative in the question, there seem to have been a break failure and the ordered step of response to this problem is to

1) Put on the hazard light to inform other road users of a problem or potential fault with your car and so they should continue their journey with caution.

2) Avoid pressing on the acceleration pedal as this might cause the car to gradually slow down due to friction and gravity

3)Try navigate the car to the service lane. This is the less busy lane where cars are sometimes parked briefly.

4) Continuously pump the breaks to try stop the car. Continuously pumping the breaks might just help you build enough pressure to stop the car because often time, there are some pressure left in the break.

5) At this point, the speed of the car should be relatively slow. So at this point, you could try apply the emergency hand break. Do not pull the emergency hand breaks if the car is on high speed. Doing this may cause the car to skid off the road.

A piano wire with mass 2.95 g and length 79.0 cm is stretched with a tension of 29.0 N . A wave with frequency 105 Hz and amplit
Romashka-Z-Leto [24]

The concept needed to solve this problem is average power dissipated by a wave on a string. This expression ca be defined as

P = \frac{1}{2} \mu \omega^2 A^2 v

Here,

\mu = Linear mass density of the string

\omega =  Angular frequency of the wave on the string

A = Amplitude of the wave

v = Speed of the wave

At the same time each of this terms have its own definition, i.e,

v = \sqrt{\frac{T}{\mu}} \rightarrow Here T is the Period

For the linear mass density we have that

\mu = \frac{m}{l}

And the angular frequency can be written as

\omega = 2\pi f

Replacing this terms and the first equation we have that

P = \frac{1}{2} (\frac{m}{l})(2\pi f)^2 A^2(\sqrt{\frac{T}{\mu}})

P = \frac{1}{2} (\frac{m}{l})(2\pi f)^2 A^2 (\sqrt{\frac{T}{m/l}})

P = 2\pi^2 f^2A^2(\sqrt{T(m/l)})

PART A ) Replacing our values here we have that

P = 2\pi^2 (105)^2(1.8*10^{-3})^2(\sqrt{(29.0)(2.95*10^{-3}/0.79)})

P = 0.2320W

PART B) The new amplitude A' that is half ot the wavelength of the wave is

A' = \frac{1.8*10^{-3}}{2}

A' = 0.9*10^{-3}

Replacing at the equation of power we have that

P = 2\pi^2 (105)^2(0.9*10^{-3})^2(\sqrt{(29.0)(2.95*10^{-3}/0.79)})

P = 0.058W

Two cars, one of mass 1400 kg, and the
Vikki [24]

Suppose that, in the x-y plane, the first car is moving to the right so that its velocity is given by the vector

v₁ = (14 m/s) i

and the second car is moving upward so that its velocity vector is

v₂ = (20 m/s) j

Then the total momentum of two cars before their collision is

m₁v₁ + m₂v₂ = (1400 kg) (14 m/s) i + (2300 kg) (20 m/s) j

= (19,600 i + 46,000 j) kg•m/s

Their momentum after the collision is

(1400 kg + 2300 kg) v = (3700 kg) v

where v is the velocity vector of the wreckage.

By conservation of momentum,

(19,600 i + 46,000 j) kg•m/s = (3700 kg) v

Let a and b be the horizontal and vertical components of v, respectively. Then

19,600 kg•m/s = (3700 kg) a   ⇒   a ≈ 5.2973 m/s ≈ 5.3 m/s

46,000 kg•m/s = (3700 kg) b   ⇒   b ≈ 12.4324 m/s ≈ 12 m/s

so that the final speed of the wreckage is

||v|| = √(a² + b²) ≈ 13.5139 m/s ≈ 14 m/s
