A 1.80 m radius playground merry-go-round has a mass of 120 kg and is rotating with an angular velocity of 0.330 rev/s. what is

its angular velocity, in rev/s, after a 27.5 kg child gets onto it by grabbing its outer edge? the child is initially at rest.

 Solution.
Initial angular  velocity ωi = 0.330 × 2π rad/sec
                                         = 2.0737 rad/sec
The initial moment of inertia li = 0.5×M×r²
                                                = 0.5 × 120 × 1.8²
                                                = 194.4 kgm²
But the angular momentum is given by the product of moment of inertia and the angular velocity.
  = li × ωi
  = 2.0737 × 194.4
  = 403.13 kg.m²/s which is constant
Child moment of inertia (point mass) = m × r²
                                                          = 27.5 × 1.8²
                                                         =  27.5 × 3.24
                                                         =  89.1 kgm²
Thus, the final moment of inertia if = 194.4 + 89.1 =  283.5 kgm²
Therefore; the final speed: =403.13/ 283.5
                                            = 1.422 rad/sec
This is equivalent to;
 1.422/2π = 0.2263 rev/s

Help me with the question in the image I provided
inna [77]

Answer: 10 s, 30 m/s , 150 m

Explanation:

Given

The speed of motorcyclist is  u_1=15\ m/s

The initial speed of a police motorcycle is u_2=0\ m/s

acceleration of police motorcycle is a=3\ m/s^2

Police will catch the motorcyclist when they traveled equal distances

distance traveled by motorcyclist in time t is

\Rightarrow s_1=15\times t

Distance traveled by Police in time t is

\Rightarrow s_2=u_2t+\frac{1}{2}at^2\\\Rightarrow s_2=0+0.5\times 3\times t^2

put s_1=s_2

\Rightarrow 15t=0.5\times 3\times t^2\\\\\Rightarrow t(1.5t-15)=0\\\\\Rightarrow t=\dfrac{15}{1.5}=10\ s

Police officer's speed at that time is

\Rightarrow v_2=u_2+at\\\Rightarrow v_2=0+3\times 10=30\ m/s

Distance traveled by each vehicle is

\Rightarrow s_1=s_2=15\times t=15\times 10=150\ m

At this radius, what is the magnitude of the net force that maintains circular motion exerted on the pilot by the seat belts, th
Ainat [17]

Answer:

Fc=5253 N

Explanation:

Answer:

Fc=5253 N

Explanation:

sequel to the question given, this question would have taken precedence:

"The 86.0 kg pilot does not want the centripetal acceleration to exceed 6.23 times free-fall acceleration. a) Find the minimum radius of the plane’s path. Answer in units of m."

so we derive centripetal acceleration first

ac (centripetal acceleration) = v^2/r

make r the subject of the equation

r= v^2/ac

 ac is 6.23*g which is 9.81

v is 101m/s

substituing the parameters into the equation, to get the radius

(101^2)/(6.23*9.81) = 167m

Now for part

( b) there are two forces namely, the centripetal and the weight of the pilot, but the seat is exerting the same force back due to newtons third law.

he net force that maintains circular motion exerted on the pilot by the seat belts, the friction against the seat, and so forth is the centripetal force.

Fc (Centripetal Force) = m*v^2/r

So (86kg* 101^2)/(167) =

Fc=5253 N
