Factor pairs are pairs of numbers that, when multiplied together, equal the original number. Prime numbersonly have the factors 1 and the number itself. I start by prime factoring the number, then combining our primes to make the factor pairs: 56 = 8 x 7 56 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 7
For 56, we have: 1 and 56 2 and 28 (2, then combine 2 x 2 x 7) 4 and 14 (2 x 2 = 4 , then combine 2 x 7=14) 7 and 8 (2 x 2 x 2=8, then 7)
