A 21500 kg jet airplane is flying through some high winds. At some point in time, the airplane is pointing due north, while the

wind is blowing from the north and east. If the force on the plane from the jet engines is 35100 N due north, and the force from the wind is 14900 N in a direction 75.0° south of west, what will be the magnitude and direction of the plane's acceleration at that moment? Enter the direction of the acceleration as an angle measured from due west (positive for clockwise, negative for counterclockwise).

Answer:\theta =79.47 North\ of\ west

Explanation:

Given

Mass of airplane =21500 kg

Force due to jet engines=35100 N

Force from wind is 14900 N at angle of 75 south of west

Resolving forces

F_x=14900cos75=-3856.403 N

F_y=35100-14900sin75

F_y=35100-14392.29=20707.70 N

Therefore acceleration in x direction

a_x=\frac{F_x}{m}=\frac{-3856.403}{21500}=-0.179 m/s^2

a_y=\frac{F_y}{m}=\frac{20707.70}{21500}=0.963 m/s^2

Direction of acceleration

tan\theta =\frac{a_y}{a_x}=\frac{0.963}{0.179}=-5.38

\theta =79.47\ North\ of\ west

A grasshopper leaps into the air at a 62° angle above the horizontal, and follows a parabolic arc in free fall after it leaves t
harina [27]

Answer:

d. None of the above.

Explanation:

In a parabolic motion, you have that in the complete trajectory the component velocity is constant and the vertical component changes in time. Then, the total velocity vector is not zero.

In the complete trajectory the gravitational acceleration is always present. Then, the grasshopper's acceleration vector is not zero.

At the top of the arc the grasshopper is not at equilibrium because the gravitational force is constantly acting on the grasshopper.

Then, the correct answer is:

d. None of the above.

A mass oscillates up and down on a vertical spring with an amplitude of 3 cm and a period of 2 s. What total distance does the m
harina [27]

Explanation:

It is given that,

A mass oscillates up and down on a vertical spring with an amplitude of 3 cm and a period of 2 s. It is a case of simple harmonic motion. If the amplitude of a wave is T seconds, then the distance cover by that object is 4 times the amplitude.

In 2 seconds, distance covered by the mass is 12 cm.

In 1 seconds, distance covered by the mass is 6 cm

So, in 16 seconds, distance covered by the mass is 96 cm

So, the distance covered by the mass in 16 seconds is 96 cm. Hence, this is the required solution.

A shot-putter accelerates a 7.2 kg shot from rest to 17 m/s . what work did the shot-putter do on the ball?
garri49 [273]
<span>1.0x10^3 Joules The kinetic energy a body has is expressed as the equation E = 0.5 M V^2 where E = Energy M = Mass V = Velocity Since the shot was at rest, the initial energy is 0. Let's calculate the energy that the shot has while in motion E = 0.5 * 7.2 kg * (17 m/s)^2 E = 3.6 kg * 289 m^2/s^2 E = 1040.4 kg*m^2/s^2 E = 1040.4 J So the work performed on the shot was 1040.4 Joules. Rounding the result to 2 significant figures gives 1.0x10^3 Joules</span>
