It prevented slaves from learning how to read and write. It also made it scary for them to escape because they allowed slave owners to whip them or hang them for trying to escape or committing small or big crimes.

(Heraldic crown) are all in the code of arms  and Castile,León, and Aragon all influenced the flag.

however some of these are just symbols and not kingdoms. such as House of Bourbon, Pillars of Hercules/the straight of Gibraltar, the Imperial crown, and the Spanish royal Crown. All the others are kingdoms however. Hope this helped. :)
