What is a major disadvantage of using nuclear fusion reactors

We have not been able to sustain a controlled fusion reaction for more than a brief moment in time, and of more than a small amount of power.

Only the Sun and stars have controlled fusion reactions, and Hydrogen bombs have uncontrolled fusion reactions.

The problem is in maintaining the extremely high temperature and pressure required to sustain a fusion reaction, while at the same time containing the plasma that results from it.

It is so hot that no container will hold it.

We can build magnetic "bottles" so to speak, but the enormous flux required to do that requires super magnets, and that requires super-conductors and super-cold temperatures.

Placing a super-hot plasma flow within the boundaries of a super-cold magnet is just not something we have accomplished yet.

We are working on it, but, barring any stupendous discovery, I think controlled fusion reactors are at least 50 or a 100 years away.

I hope this helps ^-^

Wich subatomic particles will you add or remove to change the mass of an atom? A)electrons and protons B)protons or neutrons C)e
jolli1 [7]
Technically all subatomic particles have a mass, however, electrons have such a small mass, they are insignificant and generally ignored. On the other hand, the mass of a proton and neutron are substantial, so B would be the correct answer.

What adaptation of a cactus protects it from predators? a round cactus with many spines Broad leaves Sharp spines Thick stems Ye
Alex_Xolod [135]

A round cactus with many spines is the adaptation of a cactus that protects it from predators.

A cactus, unlike other plants, has unique adaptations in its roots, leaves, and stems that allow it to flourish in hot and dry surroundings.

The one adaptation that protects the cactus from predators is spines.

A cactus does not have any parts that resemble leaves if you could look at one closely.

Instead, the leaves are transformed into spines, which protrude from the plant's tiny bumps known as areoles.

Herbivores that live in the desert may be enticed to eat the cactus. The spines prevent these predators by modifying leaves into spines.

Other than protection, Spines perform many functions like

1) Since evaporation is a problem in a desert since water is scarce, the spines prevent excessive evaporation.

2)  The spines also impede airflow and prevent evaporation by trapping air.

3) <u>Collecting dew</u> from the early-morning fog is another crucial job that the spines do.

The gathered dew turned into liquid water and ran down to the earth below. The plant then absorbs this water.

Hence, the adaptation of a cactus that protects it from predators is round cactus with many spines.

A person of mass m will bungee-jump from a bridge over a river where the height from the bridge to the river is h. The bungee co
Likurg_2 [28]

Answer:k_{min}=\frac{18mg}{h}

Explanation:

Given

mass of person is m

Distance between bridge and river is h

chord has an un-stretched length of \frac{2h}{3}

Let spring constant be k

Person will just stop before hitting the river

Conserve energy i.e. Potential Energy of Person is converted in to elastic energy of chord

mgh=\frac{kx^2}{2}

x=h-\frac{2h}{3}=\frac{h}{3}

mgh=\frac{kh^2}{18}

k=\frac{18mg}{h}

Thus k_{min}=\frac{18mg}{h}
