Answer:

Option C - Multiply the 1st equation by 2

Step-by-step explanation:

To find : Which step could be completed in order to prepare the system of equations below for the elimination method?

Solution :

1st equation: 5x-3y=10

2nd equation: 8x+6y=15

For elimination method,

We eliminate the y by multiplying 1st equation by 2 and add by 2nd equation.

i.e. 1st equation became  10x-6y=20

Add with 2nd equation,

10x-6y+8x+6y=20+15

18x=35

x=\frac{35}{18}

Substitute in (1),

5(\frac{35}{18})-3y=10

\frac{175}{18}-3y=10

3y=\frac{175}{18}-10

3y=\frac{175-180}{18}

3y=\frac{-5}{18}

y=\frac{-5}{54}

Therefore, the step  could be completed in order to prepare the system of equations below for the elimination method is option C.

Write the standard form of the equation of the circle with center (-5,-7) that passes through the point (7,5).
shutvik [7]

Answer:

(x + 5)² + (y + 7)² = 288

Step-by-step explanation:

The equation of a circle in standard form is

(x - h)² + (y - k)² = r²

where (h, k) are the coordinates of the centre and r is the radius

The radius is the distance from the centre (- 5, - 7) to the point on the circle (7, 5)

Use the distance formula to calculate r

r = √ (x₂ - x₁ )² + (y₂ - y₁ )²

with (x₁, y₁ ) = (- 5, - 7) and (x₂, y₂ ) = (7, 5)

r = \sqrt{(7+5)^2+(5+7)^2} = \sqrt{12^2+12^2} = \sqrt{288}

Hence

(x - (- 5))² + (y - (- 7))² = (\sqrt{288})², that is

(x + 5)² + (y + 7)² = 288

Draw a line representing the "rise" and a line representing the "run" of the line. State the slope of the line in simplest form.
Nat2105 [25]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

First choose two points on the line,

Let the points are A and B.

From point A to B we are moving downwards by (5 - 1 = 4 units)

Therefore, Rise = -4

Horizontal distance between A and B = 2 units

Therefore, Run = 2

Since, slope of a line = \frac{\text{Rise}}{\text{Run}}

Slope = \frac{-4}{2}

          = -2
