When matter is heated, its particles gain energy, which is exerted as kinetic energy.

In solids, the particles vibrate harder and faster, creating more space between the particles, causing them to expand. This is most visible in metals. This process is thermal expansion.

In liquids, the particles move around faster, weakening the intermolecular forces of attractions, and are thus held less closely together. The liquid expands. If you want, you can test this out yourself, by measuring and comparing the volume of the same mass of water, before and after heating. A common example is the traditional thermometer – as the bulb of the thermometer heats up, the heat is conducted to the liquid. This causes the liquid to expand, forcing it to rise up the thermometer:

How many protons neutrons and electrons does nitrogen 14 have?
vazorg [7]
Many nitrogen atoms have seven neutrons (14-7 = 7). Some atoms of nitrogen, however, have eight electrons. They are atoms of N-15, an isotope of nitrogen. In a neutral atom, the number of protons must equal the number of electrons.

2.(04.01 LC)
Mila [183]

Answer:

2KClO3 —> 2KCl + 3O2

The coefficients are 2, 2, 3

Explanation:

From the question given above, we obtained the following equation:

KClO3 —> 2KCl + 3O2

The above equation can be balance as follow:

There are 2 atoms of K on the right side and 1 atom on the left side. It can be balance by putting 2 in front of KClO3 as shown below:

2KClO3 —> 2KCl + 3O2

Now, the equation is balanced.

Thus, the coefficients are 2, 2, 3

Why do you think large differences in temperature between the wet bulb and dry bulb thermometers are possible only at higher tem
olganol [36]

Answer:

This is the temperature indicated by a moistened thermometer bulb exposed to the air flow. The evaporation is reduced when the air contains more water vapor. The wet bulb temperature is always lower than the dry bulb temperature but will be identical with 100% relative humidity.

In general, what is the effect if increased temperature on the solubility of a gas
r-ruslan [8.4K]

Increased temperature causes an increase in kinetic energy. The higher kinetic energy causes more motion in the gas molecules which break intermolecular bonds and escape from solution.
