Social Science Approach views identity as a sum of a person’s choices as well as how they draw inferences from the groups to which they belong such as race and gender. Identity may from from how people identify with  these groups and how attached they are to them and their practices.  

Dialectical Approach sees identity as a combination of static and enduring as well as always changing to reflect changes in our environment .

Interpretive Approach sees Identity as being dynamic. It forms due to the social interactions people have with others who may or may not belong to similar groups.

Critical Approach to identity resists accepted views of identity, as well as such institutions as racism. It challenges accepted norms of cultural identity .
