In the Mond process for the purification of nickel, carbon monoxide is reacted with heated nickel to produce Ni(CO)4, which is a

gas and can therefore be separated from solid impurities:
Ni(s) + 4CO(g) ⇌ Ni(CO)4(g)
Given that the standard free energies of formation of CO(g) and Ni(CO)4(g) are −137.3 and −587.4 kJ/mol, respectively,
calculate the equilibrium constant of the reaction at 86.0°C.
Assume that ΔG o f is temperature-independent.

Answer:

Explanation:

 • from ΔG = Summation of ΔGproducts - Summation of ΔGreactants
 • Given that the standard free energies of formation of CO(g) = −137.3
 • and Ni(CO)4(g)= −587.4 kJ/mol.
 • R = gas constant = 8.314
 • Temperature = 86.0°C +273 = 359k
 • ΔG reaction = −587.4 kJ/mol - (4 x −137.3kJ/mol) = -38.2kJ/mol

 • From the vant hoff Isotherm equation ; ΔG = -RTlnk
 • lnk = -38.2kJ/mol / 359 x 8.314
 • lnk = -0.0127, k = 0.987

when 824 J of heat is added to 9 grams of oil at 30°c , the temperature increases to 87°C. what is the specific heat of the oil
sattari [20]

Answer:

c = 1.61 j/g.°C

Explanation:

Given data:

Mass of oil = 9 g

Heat added = 824 j

Initial temperature = 30°C

Final temperature = 87°C

Specific heat of oil = ?

Solution:

Specific heat capacity:

It is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one gram of substance by one degree.

Formula:

Q = m.c. ΔT

Q = amount of heat absorbed or released

m = mass of given substance

c = specific heat capacity of substance

ΔT = change in temperature

ΔT = Final temperature - final temperature

ΔT = 87°C - 30°C

ΔT = 57 °C

Q = m.c. ΔT

824 j = 9 g × c × 57 °C

824 j = 513 g. °C × c

c = 1.61 j/g.°C

The exploration of the mid-cayman rise is intended to discover _______. a. what life may have been like before the evolution of
Soloha48 [4]

The exploration of the mid-cayman rise is intended to discover that what life may have been like before the evolution of photosynthesis.

What is mid - cayman rise?

Mid - cayman rise is an area or era where only some amount of light is coming but still existence of life is present there.

As we know that plants make their own food by the process called photosynthesis in the presence of light, but this is not the scenario for all the time. Before the discovery of photosynthesis plants also prepared their own food.

Hence, option (a) is correct.
