An automobile tire has a volume of 1.63 x 10-2 m3 and contains air at a gauge pressure (pressure above atmospheric pressure) of

165 kPa when the temperature is 0.00°C. What is the gauge pressure of the air in the tires when its temperature rises to 27.3°C and its volume increases to 1.70 x 10-2 m3

Answer:  The gauge pressure of the air in the tires is 179.5 kPa.

Solution :

Combined gas law is the combination of Boyle's law, Charles's law and Gay-Lussac's law.

The combined gas equation is,

\frac{P_1V_1}{T_1}=\frac{P_2V_2}{T_2}

where,

P_1 = initial pressure of gas = Atmospheric pressure + gauge pressure = 101 kPa + 165 kPa = 266 kPa

P_2 = final pressure of gas = ?

V_1 = initial volume of gas = 1.63\times 10^{-2}m^3

V_2 = final volume of gas = 1.70\times 10^{-2}m^3

T_1 = initial temperature of gas = 0^oC=273+0=273K

T_2 = final temperature of gas = 27.3^oC=273+27.3=300.3K

Now put all the given values in the above equation, we get the final pressure of gas.

\frac{266\times 1.63\times 10^{-2}}{273K}=\frac{P_2\times 1.70\times 10^{-2}}{300.3K}

P_2=280.5kPa

Gauge pressure = Absolute pressure - atmospheric pressure  = (280.5 - 101) kPa= 179.5 kPa

Therefore, the gauge pressure of the air in the tires is 179.5 kPa.

Including them, the mass of the balloon was 1890 kg and had a volume of 11,430 m3 . The balloon floats at a constant height of 6
Monica [59]

Given :

The mass of the balloon was 1890 kg and had a volume of 11,430 m3 .

The balloon floats at a constant height of 6.25m above the ground.

To Find :

The density of the hot air in the balloon.

Solution :

We know,

Volume × ( Density of surrounding air - Density of hot air ) = mass

Putting given values in above equation, we get :

11430\times ( 1.29 - \rho_{hot \ air } ) = 1890\\\\\rho_{hot \ air } = 1.29 - \dfrac{1890}{11430}\\\\\rho_{hot \ air } =  1.125\ kg\ m^3

Therefore, the density of hot air in the balloon is 1.125 kg m³.

The energy an object has because of its position is called _____
Alenkinab [10]

Answer:

Gravitational potential energy

Explanation:

The gravitational potential energy is the energy that an object has because of its positive with respect to a certain reference level (generally assumed to be the ground level).

The magnitude of the gravitational potential energy is given by

U=mgh

where

m is the mass of the object

g is the strenght of the gravitational field

h is the height of the object with respect to the reference level

From the formula, we see that the higher the object is, the larger its gravitational potential energy is.

Zac releases the air from a balloon. Which statement best describes what will happen to the air that was inside the balloon?
ehidna [41]

The air that was inside the balloon will expand to fill the room

Explanation:

Matter exists in three states:

  • Solid: in a solid, the molecules are bound to each other by strong intermolecular bonds, so they are not able to move freely, but only to vibrate around their fixed position. As a result, solids have a definite shape and a definite volume.
  • Liquid: in a liquid, the molecules are free to slide past each other, however there are still intermolecular forces acting between them that prevent them to move too far apart from each other. As a result, liquids have a definite volume, but not a definite shape.
  • Gas: in a gas, intermolecular forces between molecules are negligible, and molecules can move freely. As a result, gases have no definite volume and no definite shape.

According to the definition of gas, this means that in this problem, when the air is released from the balloon, the molecules of air will move out of it and will try to fill the whole space available, which is the room.
